Well he is not match fit. Could be the injury as well but if injured then why even enter the tournament?
Probably to get ranking points, 3000 better than nothing? Maybe he should play some lower level tournaments to get match fit and some points
The Canada Open, apparently. Incidentally, Naraoka, Nishimoto and Tsuneyama will be in Taipei this week in their bid to book Olympic seats.
Is there even any remote chance that he can make Paris OG? It's looking dim unless he can get into the QF consistently? Sent from my SM-S918W using Tapatalk
Right now, maybe he should just focus on learning to love badminton with passion again rather than just Olympic. He should forget that badminton was a sport that got him into a deadly accident. Sent from my XQ-BT52 using Tapatalk
If Momota was qualified the Olympic, and what if he would lost the first round again ??? Forgetting Olympic and playing badminton as a passion
Momota is included in the Asian Games squad, along with Naraoka, Nishimoto, and Tsuneyama. He will not be featured in the individual event due to his ranking.
Its good to have a goal though, olympics is the main goal for most players. If he doesn’t at least try for Paris, im not sure if he will wait for LA in 2028, what are the odds he will regain his form then?
Assuming he is able to restore his love for badminton, he can aim to become top 10 World ranking as a goal. Then top 5. Finally, become number 1. If he does that I'll be happy for him and I believe he will be happy for himself to re discover what a person with his skills and instinct in badminton can achieve. Also, I believe many of his fans will be very understanding about him not able to achieve Olympic status after his close encounter with death at a time when everything was going so well for him. We just want him to love badminton again and continue to challenge himself to achieve higher rankings. Sent from my XQ-BT52 using Tapatalk
It's not his lack of love of Badminton, as some of you have mentioned, is that he's lost his form. His defense is very poor, surprising for someone who had solid defense during his pre-accident days. He did have eye surgery and not sure if this is bothering him to see the shuttle.
His back injury is the biggest problem right now, and it has been a problem since the 2021 French Open. There's no doubt he still wants to go on, but whether he can make it to Paris or not will depend a lot on whether the back problem will go away or not. It is odd for an injury to last this long. I wonder if it's an artifact of the car accident. Many people end up with prolonged back and neck pain after a car accident.
He needs to make it to the top 16 and beat his compatriots for a spot. Im not sure if he can reach naraoka but he can stil make it if he is the second highest ranked.
So he’s doing well in japan but somehow not in international tournaments? Might be a confidence issue
Omg, did he drop like 20 places this week? Hopefully he can get back to at least top 16 soon. He have cameback before like from his gambling ban, or SYQ did it too, he is in the top 5 again now after his almost a year ban, so we know it can be done even if a players ranking dropped a ton.
