Ashwini/Jwala* when the won the WC Bronze. Really impressed by these young guns though, we always talk about how treesa resembles young Satwik and has immense raw talent, but in this tourney Gayatri has shown tremendous improvement and her sense of court coverage is good too. If it was anybody in the world instead of Ishaan I'd still be watching and hoping. But he just doesn't have it. No power, no speed, no racket skills One has to wonder if Lakshay was asked to play today, it could've been first ever victory against CHN in a team tournament? I mean yes, this is only a B stringers team from CHN but it'd still be something.
In the end the Danish pair won the second and third sets quite comfortably. So Denmark takes it with 3-2. Congrats to Dennark! Still, in hindsight France was just one point away from a huge upset. Well done too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did some digging, It was Ashwini/Pradnya only in Malaysia Open 2013 R 16 . Jwala/Ashwini lost to Zhao Yunlei/ Tian Qing in semis in WC 2011. You are right about Jolly having that raw talent that Satwik has, but glad to see Pulella improving so much over the years, especially her defence and net play. She need to work on her her attack.
Are there streaming for these matches tomorrow? I just got back from vacation and have no idea where to watch anything.
Not totally convinced. France was very close this year and, with the exception of WS, their players were much younger than their Danish opponents. I think Denmark need to look out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He was like that with Tan Qiang, his previous partner as well. Maybe it's just him that needs to change his behaviour.
This is suct a pity I was rooting for France so hard Hope that France just keeps going up in the next few years
Team CHN did well to take the first two singles matches in both the Semifinal and Final against Team IND and KOR respectively, otherwise it's hard to say what the outcome might have been. Actually, in the semifinal, I thought Gao FJ was lost in the decider against Sindhu when the latter came back strongly after a tame G1 loss, by showing glimpses of her former best in G2 and most of G3. To GFJ's credit she clawed her way back to clinch the set and the match. Lei Lanxi's victory over Prannoy was an even bigger surprise to me. In the Final, again the two CHN singles did a good job to give Team CHN an excellent head start, which proved decisive as I was certain the Koreans would prevail in at least two of the three doubles. However, the KOR WD Jeong NE/Lee SH in do-or-die situation couldn't handle the added pressure while, OTOH, Tan Ning/Liu SS seemed to have learned from their defeat to the relatively unknown but promising IND WD pair, Jolly/Pullela, yesterday and stepped up their game with better well-timed attacks and follow-ups coupled with improved defence to stun the more established pair,JNE/LSH, whom before the start of the match I was sure to come out on top to equalize the team score 2-2 and force the deciding tiebreaker. Once again, Gao Fangjie deserves a special mention, she was on a roll, defeating Kim Ga Eun for the second time here and even bettering it today with an identical score of 21-15. I can now safely say GFJ is on a comeback trail. Congratulations to China's B-Team for emerging Champion in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Tournament 2023.
Imagine that in 2023 Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, we will watch championship matches between China's A-Team vs China's B-Team. Japan and South Korea might be able to give some challenge to China's B-Team in semifinal. India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia are the dark horses to stop Japan or South Korea from achieving third-place finish.
