bumiputra in malaysia is malay, dayak. bumiputra in indonesia is malay, javanese, sundanese, dayak, bugis, papuan, balinese, etc
they're carrying a lot of 'experience' around... heh heh. nice to kim sa rangs racket skills on display again.
bwf will not make any changes that can be construed as sexist or unequal. if you change it for wd you would have to change it for ws also. the quicker ws players would love a faster shuttle. it makes no difference. it's all about how the game is played. the problem at this point in time is women cannot overpower women. also they aren't using speed or counter attacking enough. nor do any of them utilize a fast cut drop or fast downward slice as an offensive weapon. backcourt drops are too easy to retrieve. blame the coaches for not training the players with new techniques and/or strategies.
Another PFR player bags MS crown after last week KOR Open in Suncheon. Both players are good retrieval but Jeon has better stamina and stronger attacking shot with lethal cross court smash to intercept a series of clear shots. The Japanese newcomer should enhance his agressive game to complete his satisfying defense aspect. Among all four young generation players, Vitidsarn & Sen move forward several steps beyond their junior peers, Naraoka and Li SF so far. Precision and aggression has brought He BJ won over higher-ranked Chen YF once again, second S300 title in this year. He had great start to outmaneuver the sluggish Chen with fast attacking game and didn't give ample of chance for her teammate to counter attack or slow down the tempo. Interesting turnaround happened in second game when the left hander had deficiency of accuracy, patience suddenly, everything went awry and dictated by Chen rallying game. In final game, He bounced back to refocus and took command with her marvelous shots to outclass the fatigue Chen. The Olympic Champion quest to regain 2019 superb form continues, she will skip BAC to prepare Uber Cup in following week. The Olympic Champs restore their old form gradually and starting to win again, this time S300 title, good fight by Ou/Huang, the male player still weak link of this combination but better effort than yesterday semifinal match. An anticlimax MD clash, shortest duration of five finals as The Kims, former world #2 pair are too strong for Ou/Liu, their flat game troubling the tall Chinese duo mostly who prefer to lift the shuttlecock and punished by hard smashes. Kim/Kong out as champion to tame juniors Baek/Lee who'll be one of KOR WD successors alongside Jeong NE/Kim HJ.
Kim/Kim didn't look too convincing yesterday when playing against the Japanese players. Thought they would have a harder time coping with OXY's power play and LYC front court pressure and defense. But holy smokes, they were in a zone today. Amazing racket skills from KSR and great defense which allowed them to keep LYC out of his comfort zone most of the time. Not as fast as they were in the last decade but they surely have not lost their badminton skills. Also both seemed to really enjoy their time on court Deserved victory today! Seeing them, LYD, KSH/SBH and ZN in the same tournament surely was a blast from the past. Btw, did anybody see that handsome Chinese coach?
I've no problem with WS, it's WD that has the problem with shuttle speed. In WD, there are two players on each side and as women don't have the physicality of men, the rallies tend to last much longer, to the detriment of the sport. I mean, being politically correct doesn't equate to denying biological differences as a fact; at the same time, I don't see sexism as an issue here if BWF were to adopt a faster shuttle speed for WD than MD to improve the entertainment value of the game. I believe when WD becomes more exciting and interesting to watch than currently after the shuttle speed change, the benefits would far outweigh the risks, and all would be well. Hope so. Maybe, a simple practical first step , as an experiment, is for WD to test and choose a shuttle speed, as Visor suggested, that is one or two marks faster than what's to be used for the other disciplines in every tournament based on the speed metric available from the supplier. If not, then let the tournament director decide on the speed metric before the start of the tournament, perhaps with inputs from a few randomly selected coaches and WD players from different BAs. An offhand suggestion.
It's not the matter of hitting the shuttle but also women's reflexes and movement. When the shuttle faster, it can be "1 hit 1 point", the top players will crush the weakers. The match will be more boring. My suggestion will be to reduce the points to take the game from 21 down to 17 (or 15)
I don' t think I have ever heard a female WD player recommending that women should play with faster shuttles than men. Has anyone? Personally, I find the tactical differences and variation between MD and WD enjoyable. And if I didn't, I would consider this to be an opportunity for a coffee break.
They can't do that cause there are women who play both wd and XD. So they'll have to adjust to two speeds? Doesn't seem fair Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Slow shuttle speed is a common enemy to all disciplines. At times, even MD players are powerless with a slow shuttle and resort to lobbing around like WD. And that's painful to watch too. It's just that the problem in WD is particularly acute and at risk to push WD into a dark age again. Female players are so physically well conditioned today. Once upon a time, the trickeries from someone like Eom Hye Won can score a lot of points. But now, players can overcome that with sheer speed in reflex and movement (An Seyoung is a prime example in WS), especially when you have two players to cover the court. XD is totally different as the male player will handle most of the shots and deliver the big hits. Slower shuttle is a good equalizer to bring the female partner into the game.
Sucks that korean national team cut some of these guys international career short. Kim sa rang, Kim gi Jung, ko and shin are all better than current members. Weird cause lyd and yys have gotten significantly worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This one definitely won’t work. BWF got taken to CAS for changing the scoring system that was discriminatory against women. BWF lost. After that, any change to game almost certainly must be apply across all events - not just women’s events.
'we want wd to be more like md, but played by women.' yeah right, that's going to sit well with female players. i can guarantee some of the female players in all three disciplines will find it sexist. some will complain about the inequity. some will find it punitive. wd needs to be played differently, evolve, where the players themselves are trying to speed the game up through improved techniques and strategies. look at how the ws game has changed since 2012: more speed, better techniques, more power. today's top players would run circles around li xuerui and wang yihan. their matches look very robotic now.
I think they all chose to leave and go independent, it was their choice, why, i dunno. But it doesn’t look like the Korean National team provides much opportunities to independent players to participate like world championships, olympics, thomas cup etc like other countries for example Malaysia.
if you're on the nat'l team you must live @ the training center. can't start a family or set up your next career in that situation. the team also needs to invest in the future between olympic cycles.
