It’s cruel and unfair. Expected, BAM wants to make an example out of LZJ and GJW to deter other BAM players from leaving while simultaneously ‘luring’ to get them back. Apparently BAM is letting LZJ to appeal the decision but let’s be real. BAM only wants what they want. Will BWF do something? Or is this yet another harmful situation that BWF seemingly doesn’t care? What a waste of several years of his prime if it’ll happen. Pandemic already wasted 1-2 years prime age of so many players.
Also a case of “if you leave, there are certain advantages and disadvantages “ Thus, a player has to think very carefully and also play the politics very carefully to keep on being on good terms. Don’t know if it is a factor but the players need to know their contract very well as there may be clauses which the player forgot about or didn’t realise the implications of.

He signed the contract and if it says he will be barred for 2 years then he should have seen it coming. The only problem now is they have arrived at a lose-lose situation where it benefits neither of the parties. A more logical way to resolve this should be for LZJ to pay a sum that is large enough to warn other players from leaving, a sum that BAM thinks is enough to cover all the expenses spent on him throughout the years. This way BAM can recoup their losses (or make a profit), reinvest the money into grooming talents and still have LZJ representing the country in his prime years.
bwf is trying to sound like they aren't the bad guy here. do not be fooled. their jurisdiction rule should not exist in the first place. when will a competent journalist ask bwf to justify the rule?

Right now, you don't need another country to lure you. You can get fasttrack citizenship in some countries that needs investment. Some will give you citizenship if you invest in their real estate like in South America so if he just wants to play and earn, giving up citizenship for another is the faster way. Of course if you don't want to leave your family and hometown that is a different consideration

the situations aren't exactly the same. the was no federation claiming to govern all entry rules, like bwf does over badminton. that was a deal cut between yugo & iltf. that could never happen in badminton today because every top player is owned by a power federation and cannot decide when to play or when not to play. 'you wanna boycott? if you don't play we won't enter you in any more tournaments. say good bye to your career.'
It's a semi self-sustaining model where they get sponsorships to keep the association running, although they do also get some form of assistance from government, which is why LZJ leaving without consequences is a big threat to the association's existence. Anyway, the decision is not final as BAM said that they will welcome him back if he changes his mind. A journalist also asked if they could resolve this financially but the management answered that they haven't gotten to that stage. I believe they will reach amicable terms (financially) where both parties get what they want.
