Sad for AA. I think the vaccine cause tightness in the heart area to some people. I do have it as well.

Also sad that China is not in this tournament. Need to leave politics out of this. But cant. ;)

As for momota, he really need to change his style of playing. Perhaps he is also another victim of complacency against lky. Just like ctc and gemke and lzj. Am sure all other players give respect to lky now. Only Viktor and AA haven't lost to LKY yet. ;) LKY speed and power is perfect. ;)

Momota must win game1 if he wants to win. He is a slow starter and tires on 3rd game. Very obvious now. ;)

With the emergence of B11259 virus strain, tournaments will get hard again. Heard its 2-5x more deadly and spread than Delta.

AllEngland will be at risk, UK already banning Africa countries.

Poor Yamaguchi needs to sleep, it's best she bows out to Chocu today and has a break before the WTF..

Guys let's not get too out of topic here.

However it would be interesting to know if there is really a drop in let's say stamina of all the players in general.

Has there been an increase in the number of walkover or retire from matches or obvious fatigue compared to previous years?

She probably COULD grind out the win here but really not a good idea. She can't grind forever. I don't think it's in her nature to not go 100% though which is a bit of a double edged sword with these back to back tourneys.

The reason is a muscle injury in the chest area. Even if the vaccine could cause chest "tightness" (I don't want to speculate), confusing that with a muscle injury should not be possible. He was advised by the doctors on the team not to play.

Good question! I think there has been, but proper statistics would indeed be interesting. The cause would of course be the tight schedule, and possibly sub-optimal training period in 2020 and maybe large parts of 2021, and less "real match practice" (= tournaments).

The Olympic champions worst night mare is probably Mayu Matsumoto.

but she is without her partner, Wakana Nagahara.

btw what’s going on with her? Don’t tell me she retired? She’s too young to retire.

I think she has an injury or is resting from the Olympics. The Japanese National Team paired temporary player (being Ayako Sakuramoto from Team YONEX) for Matsumoto for the IndoMasters and currently playing IndoOpen2021 (Won 2nd set so far against Polii/Rahayu pair).

Any idea why polli/Rahayu struggle so much against the Japanese pairs but do extremely well against the Chinese.

This is a smart move by AA. If he feels like he is not match fit, it’s best to avoid getting injured during the match against JC.

Even if he manages to beat JC he still has to face VA (most likely) and he can’t retire without getting punished by BWF and risk losing all his points from the tournament.

What a shame. The game ended with a service error from Matsumoto.

At least, she’s trying to do low serves. I give her credit for that.

Rahayu dominated and made amazing shots in the Olympics againt Chen/Jia. Rahayu was the main key for her and Polii to win Gold in Tokyo. Polii made indecisions (ex: hesitating last second to hit the shuttle at the back of the court) against the Matsumoto/Sakuramoto. Matsumoto seems to always be nervous when catching up points, must be pressure.

Matsumoto is not the one that struggles with serves, it’s her partner nagahara who flicks all the time.

Not just the Olympics, they beat Chen/Jia at both the same prod championships 18 and 19 and then lost to mayu/wakana both times quite convincingly

I remembered the Tokyo Olympics match against Kim & Kong. Her serves were bad and she kept on flicking as well at multiple match points and eventually lost the match.
