Yeah but everybody do that. Even Sindhu sometimes or Marin. What SYQ did was really one of a kind.

With carreer-threatening injuries or huge cramps, perhaps. But never in this fashion. Especially in the context of a team competition which allows him to actually resume playing the next day (whereas he would be out of the tournament in individual competition).

is the last sentence he said , sounds like he is hoping Momota would get injury?

I remember LiXueRui in 2016 Olympic, but she still continued playing.. was it at point 17 or 18. Ginting inury vs SYQ in AsianGames. But never like this and seeing this kind of interview laughing smiling i just want to punch his face!

You mean i) Ratchanok who is actually injured/ unfit (and did not retire at match point or claimed to have "not technically lost the match" by the way) and will not be playing tomorrow and ii) Yamaguchi who played the entire match until the end (and not retired at 20-7) which is clearly more of a best effort than retiring at 20-5 and laughing it off in post-match interview?

Not inclusive of those no I am affraid. Your bad faith is still quite prevalent I see.. I will spare us both time and not engage in this discussion further though. I have said my piece (and so have all others) and you have said yours I guess.

I am rooting for INA. MD will win easily and to take one singles out of either Ginting or JC is entirely possible.

    Time wasting is common IMO...
or at least some kind of walking around and such ... (not that it's acceptable)

but nothing compared to what SYQ did.

I saw someone commented that A thai player Busanan ONGBAMRUNGPHAN hurt herself while playing Marin ... and played on... does anyone knows which match it is?

Gonna need something like that to wash the bad taste off my mouth

Please don't digress , nothing to do with Lin Dan's ' cold water' incident. And also your conspiracy theory alluded to here and in the Shi Yuqi thread.

But, one thing for sure, CBA will reprimand him, openly or internally. I'm just as shocked and disappointed as anyone of you here. Still at a loss for words to describe his shocking, self-defeating behaviour.

I'm writing him off for the time being. Waiting to see how he's going to redeem himself in future. Not going to be easy. The damage done is mostly to himself, more than to the team as a whole or to CBA, for that matter.

Agree there. Unfortunately, bad behavior, and even SYQ's weird behavior, is not something punishable by BWF.

They've had rules to fix Marin and Kevin...
now some rules to fix sportmanship pls!!

Make it that you retires, you're out of that tournament!!!
or at least 1-2 matches after!!

The biggest pleasant surprise of the day or tournament , for me, is that CHN won both the MDs matches against JPN to earn a place in he final. Beyond expectations.

i'm expecting CHN national team to take him off the list of the national players. Honestly this brings shame to CHN. Never again he should play in BWF sanctioned tournamnets.

I actually used to like him and his style of play but he lost all my respect after what he did today. Laughing shamelessly as if it's a normal thing to do, retire at 5-20 down when you're about to lose the match. I don't know if the translator did a great job at translating his words to English but he's saying he did what he did because of personal reasons, dude you're playing a team tournament representing your nation. If your personal reasons are bigger than the sport itself than simply opt out of team championships and play individual tournaments exclusively.

I am not making my judgement emotionally though. On paper, INA has a higher chance winning. It won't be easy one but marginally more likely.
