That would be quite the scandal honestly. I cannot remember anything like this happening in any past team competition. Retiring on match point, being sarcastic about it in post-match interview, and then come back for a three-set affair the next day? LOL this is a comedy at this point
Imagine the uproar if SYQ plays tomorrow and win the match.Imagine how will JPN INA or even THA feels and Denmark as the hosts. He is already the antagonist of the tournament. Its such a good tournament , then it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. surely what he did today is the highlight or lowlight of the tournament.
This will be tragic. What does he take the team tournament, why is he even bothered about Gold at all when he doesnt even let opponent win the match. Of course if CHN end up winning the Gold and he even played, it will be tarnished. Not just this ThomasCup but for its history.
Hoo Boy, i think so. I think BWF has to disqualify him. surely this never happened before and it will sad bad precedent for the future.
I understood that, I said "I don't know" for that only, and in a way I don't know hyderabadi hindi much either, little hindi I know I learned in West Bengal.
Maybe china shd retire tmr. They didnt loose. what a joke. Sound like lin dan cold.water stomach ache controversy in singapore open.
What a bizarre ending to a match followed by a even more bizarre post match interview. SYQ has lost a bit of respect from me. However, I don't know if there is anything BWF can do. They have to go by the rules. Unless they find credible evidence of match fixing, which they likely won't, we will see SYQ playing again tomorrow.
Players who really did lose respect today: Shi Yu Qi and Anders Antonsen. Very unsportsmanlike behaviour from both at the end of their matches.
So the BWF website is up again and I see the World Tour Finals in Indonesia from December 1 to December 5 on their website. However, I also read this at the Badminton Pan America website, which is the official website for Pan America badminton: "The final tournament of the calendar year will be the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain in Week 50 (12-19 December 2021)." So I think both can be true if you look at the dates. World Tour Finals between Dec 1 and Dec 5 in Indonesia, and then WC in Spain from Dec 12 to Dec 19. There is a one week gap between Dec 5 to Dec 12, so unless Spain has a mandatory quarantine for incoming travelers, I think the schedule still works. I guess we will find out as the dates approach. For the WC this year, it was supposed to be the 2020 WC which was cancelled because of covid.
Here's a more accurate translation of what Shi YuQi actually said: Interviewer: ShiYuQi, what's the main reason why you retired from this match? Shi: (To the translator) You tell him straight away Interviewer: What's the reason why you don't stand one more point, because on paper one more point, you can just walk on court, stand still, let him flick a serve and then you can lose 21-5, why don't you just stand one more point? Shi: basically ... if i retired at the 20th point technically it means I have not lost the game yet, the score didn't reach 21 (awkward laughs)(sniffs) (sniffs) this is just a small matter, which doesn't matter at all Interviewer: Why don't you just leave at 11, or at 5 or at 7 point, 20-5 it looks strange on paper, and it looks like you don't want to lose, but is it fair, is it fair play? Shi: Technically, there could still be surprises, right? Interviewer: but did you give all you could, since you could actually played one more point, and it's also a matter of the sport being taken seriously (annoyed), is this fair play? Shi: Referring to this, erm, how do i put this in words . so at that moment I was tired, I couldn't run much more, but (if the match were to carry on) there is always a possibility that a scenario which during the match ... what I'm about to say is not going to sound very nice, but if the match were to resume (if I didn't retire), hey , he (referring to his opponent Kento Momota) could still suddenly feel unwell, you know, he (inaudible), right? (awkward laughs), you get what I mean. Interviewer: Thank you very much.
Lin Dan probably busy throwing some punches to care about SYQ. I liked SYQ but I don't know what happened today. I can't find any reason aside ego or serious mental issues. Or maybe he is facing other issues in life and that came out ugly today. I don't know.
Also including Intanon Ratchanok's early retirement after just 7 points played, and, perhaps, Akane Yamaguchi for not putting in her best effort in that shitty match loss to An Seyoung?
