Nole is a mastermind loooool. That guy - you always think he is about to lose but it doesn't happen XD. I wish Momota would have that killer mind.
Maybe the strange schedule also caused Momota to lose, he couldnt gradually get used to the conditions because match 1 was on sunday and match 2 on wednesday.
I hope he is okay. This must be a huge blow to him. I think he is just out of form due to lack of competitions and too much pressure on him
Very bad luck on home ground. He had all the time to train at the venue. Hope he can redeem 2024. Lzj waiting for him.
it won't. it did not pass the vote. changes will not happen until after paris 2024, if at all. you know a sloth moves faster than bwf...
The way he lost was really strange, I think they need to rethink their coach... KM just walked slowly around, lift, and die to the smash. He did not change his strategy at all, just kept lifting and losing. The opposition is WR 47, and reasonably old (so not some young gun), with a limited level. KM does not need his A-game to work to beat him. B-game will do just fine. KM's normal playstyle (A-game) is "active defense", with the key point of Active. So lift, wait for them to smash, but make sure you comfortably receive the smash and then make them pay. So defending, but as the hunter instead of the hunted. B-game is to attack like most of the other players. Attacking has higher margin for error (use that nervous energy on something productive), and getting tired makes you less nervous. (Which is why we see styles like PV Sindhu doing well in big events vs TTY artistic style, cos when nervous, attacking is easier.) KM's attacking game is actually pretty decent, he talked about changing his style and attacked for a while in 2019 with success, took down Ginting etc. And then he stopped attacking/COVID hit, but regardless very impressive that he was preparing a Plan B. In singles people will lift/clear to you, its not like MD/XD where sometimes there is simply no chance to attack. At the worst just net and guard the net more, in that game he netted and stood back, so was unable to punish the re-nets. Normally he does that and just lifts (cos good defence), but its a tactical choice you can easily adjust, just stand closer after netting. Even if losing points after attacking at least it will help lift his lethargic rhythm and clear some nerves. Why did he go to all that trouble of preparing an implementable Plan B for a year, then walk around like a stunned mullet and lose tamely? I understand KM might be in shock and panic, but WHAT WAS THAT COACH DOING?!
I watched some of the 2018 edition of Momota on youtube and what a massive difference it was! He was much greater back then
@kurako : Dear Kurako, would it be possible for you to share with us some news / articles from the Japanese press? Is there any news on Momota's condition / or any speculations maybe? Anything related to his sight maybe? Would be awesome to hear any news, if you have the time to share with us.
Do you think it's possible that Kento just tanked on purpose? Didn't really want to play at the Olympics while his country is dealing with covid? Even at AE he played better than this. I am just looking back at the second match he played and it looks like he's coasting and accepting defeat. Or was it really nerves/pressure?
Lol... Nah. Problem with Momota is he's always been a slow starter. Against Heo, Heo being the underdog had nothing to lose and played freely like a madman. Momota being slow starter fell behind too much to make up. Then being behind he started to lose his nerves as displayed by over a dozen times he failed in his net and touch shots. Interestingly Heo then went on to feel this same pressure to perform against the nothing to lose underdog Cordon. There you see Heo making errors that he never made against Momota. Yes. Momota needs a while before his engibe starts. But it choke and didnt start. Wakaka. He shd be smart to play less for og 2024 qualifying and not get that pressured jinx no 1 ranking. Lol The grouping system doesnt favour top seeds. In majority. Not all.
Very close! I'm saying that based on their last match. Axelsen did very well and he is more oiled in this style now. I'd rather he played against the all defense Momota of 2018 or early 2019. The pure defense and this would then make Axelsen frustrated and the mistakes would come.
