Rahayu is just the MVP of this WD. She is just so fast like lightning, no way someone like Shin and Jia can keep up with her. Against Japan, Korea, China, safe to say they deserve it.

What a journey for Polii - from being disqualified in 2012 to winning Gold in 2021.

Her reaction at the end said it all.

I didn't have high expectation for WD INA's pair for this final...
Can anyone compare/share idea about this final/meeting between those two in previous meeting as well?

I mean even Gill said that CHN pair didn't take much control over the net... and after I saw yesterday WD SF, I was afraid with Poli'is serve/flick...

But perhaps that doesn't matter (esp. with the gold for INA :):)). INA defence's good, tactically good execution to the empty area, and keeping the nerves very well...

Well deserved gold medal and history for the 1st gold in WD Badminton

    Congrats Polii and Rahayu.
Rarely the ladies out perform the men for Indonesia.
The Minions will offer to help with your bags when leaving the stadium ;).

It seemed ages ago when I first saw Greysia (partnering in XD with Rijal) and now she's Olympic Gold medalist! What an accomplishment and exclamation point for her long career!

This was the first WD match I coached this Oly
Both Apriyani and Dora seems to have lost a significant amount of weight.

While it obviously worked well for the Indonesian has CQC lost some of the power in her shots now? There was little to no venom when she tried to put it down, or was it just the nerves from today's big match

I'm curious too. Aside from someone like Lin Dan who can produce results and maintain it by longevity, it seems that every so often, China likes to "clean house" to allow a new crop of players to rise up and hopefully dominate the tournament circuit. There are countless players from China who have made "appearances" on the circuit on a "trial basis", but for one reason or another (either injuries, or bad results), they stop being entered into events and I often wonder, what happened to them?

So with the rest of of 2021 stacked with a myriad of team and other events, one has to wonder if this year/season may be the last for some of these players and 2022 onwards will ring in a gradual/sudden change in the team lineup

    Nice sportsmanship by the Chinese.
CQC is so likable off the court.

Very happy for Polii/Rahayu. Finally they got their dues.

Rahayu is the player of the match! Period. She played her A game today. Covered every open space with her running and jumping. Her Attack is good, defence better. Sometimes even drives and move forward for the kill.
    Superb

CQC isn't really a hard hitter, her problem in this match was she simply making too many mistake and not dominant enough at the front court.

What a match and performance from the INA WD pair Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu! They played the match of their life and they snsured that Team INA returns from Tokyo with at least 1 GOLD Medal from Badminton. You cannot underestimate the scale of their achievement, having been unseeded and beaten JPN's World No 1 Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in the Group Stage, followed by CHN's World No 7 Du Yue/Li Yinhui, KOR's World No 4 (Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan), before beating CHN's World No 3 Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan in straight-sets 21-19, 21-15.

I let out a shout of "YESSSSSSS!!!!" after instant review confirmed that the return by the Chinese pair was out! It didn't matter as the INA pair knew it was out already as they celebrated in joy. It has been quite a while since I am so overjoyed!

What a career Greysia Polii has and this is a perfect birthday present for her. Now the question is will she stay on to fight for the World Championships end of this year; followed by All-England and Asian Games 2022. No matter what she will achieve later, she can retire without regret either end of this year or next year!

Precisely!! We really need this Gold medal badly, followed by hopefully another Bronze by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting later.
