I am rooting for Axelsen because he is the face of Modern BWF tour and will be more consistent than Gāo de Long going forward. Not to mention, he could revive his rivalry with Kento Momota. We could have another LD vs LCW type rivalry in the making.
I'm rooting for Viktor Axelsen as I dont like one nation domination especially that of China's. That much good China is, that I want their hegemony to end. Plus Viktor if he wins, that can be a huge boost to his confidence. Chen Long already won one, so I would like someone else to win the Gold this time.
i choose the winner, coz chen long MUST win this game to prove the world badminton domination once again.
Have to go with Chen (even though he's already got one, and I can't stand it when CHN win anything). I've never liked watching Axelsen - he looks extremely awkward, to me, as though he's constantly working against his height and build; Chen, despite being an absolute unit, moves extremely well. Call me old-fashioned, but I much prefer to watch singles played by slender, glide-y players - Lee CW, Momota, Son WH, guys like that.
Viktor Axelsen! Chen Long’s a nice guy but if Viktor wins it will increase our sport’s popularity, especially with non-Asian countries. At the end of the day, I want 3 good & close games more so than who wins. I hope they give us amazing games like the 2011 World Championships final between LD & LCW.
I cheer for Chen Long because he's a legend and I'd like him to equal Lin Dan's record of 2 successive Olympic gold medals.
As Im neutral I didnt vote in the poll which means I cannot see the result of what other people voted
Apparently, the odds are in favour of Axelsen - age, physical condition, in top form , mentally nothing to fear now that his nemesis has crashed out of the tournament. Chen Long today is not the same as he was in Rio'16 ,the peak of his career. As I've said before, the rate of recovery of an older athlete past 30 will begin to slow down significantly, power is affected first before endurance which suffers considerably later as one approaches 35. Not only age-wise, his form the past few years has been unconvincing, confirming he is past his prime. So, much as I wish to see Chen Long, The Dragon, get another gold to match Lin Dan's record for he deserves it for wresting his three major titles all from the hands of the mighty Lee CW, no less - but taking into account such objective criteria aforementioned, the vote has to go to VA. However, this is the Olympics, mind you, anything can happen - think Momota, Heo Kwang Hee, Kevin Cordon, Tai Tzu Ying, MD Gideon/Sukamuljo, MD Wang/Lee, the Japanese and Korean WDs, who else. So, in conclusion, if Chen Long can do a mind over matter, we may very well see him stand on the winner's podium with a gold medal around his neck!
Very true, but couldn't you say the same before CL's slayed the great Anthony Ginting? Personally, I also think Axelsen will win because he's been playing lights out most of this year. But CL does have a chance. It's about 55-45 match in my view.
Agree, but at that time, it's more like wishful thinking; besides, it's only the semifinals where nobody is assured of medalling yet as the losing semifinalists still have to play for bronze. Ya, it's the Olympic gold medal that dreams are made of. So, now that it's down to between Chen Long and Viktor - I dare to dream. And Dream Big!
Who? I've always rooted for him and I still root for him. Kento Momota. Why? I simply love the style of his play. P.S. Yeah I know.
Carolina Marin has won it all but yet the sport hasn't really been that much more popular with non-Asian countries. I don't mind either player winning because I do like both of them - but I'm tipping Chen Long to win. For the bronze, Ginting all the way. If he loses, then well... no words to be said.
