Winter Finland weather can be tough on athletes, mainly Asian athletes.

Late September, early October means normal fall weather in Southern Finland, 10-15 degrees Celsius. It's no winter by our standards, but it might pose some trouble for anyone coming from 30°C.

Anyway, what an unexpected turn of events to have Sudirman Cup come to Finland. I was planning a trip to HK in November to go watch some badminton, but now there's no need to. Just goes to show anything can happen in these weird times.

Too bad that I cannot change my schedule and holiday to go and watch the Sudirman cup in Finland.

... And, due to conflicting schedules, the Japan Open has been cancelled.

    Updated the first post!

It'll be interesting how things will go for the Asian tournaments (Korea/Chinese Taipei). It seems that those countries are hopeful things get better, but are not 100% in those tournaments being held. I'm surprised there isn't news about World Jr Championships as well, since that is in China, and it seems like China will not host any tournaments this year.

Let's hope things get better, and we can see all these tournaments happen again.

    Definitely, it will be cancelled.

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund is really clear to convey his message regarding the revised calendar post Tokyo OG :

“The new calendar represents an assessment of what are the most feasible tournaments to take place in the coming months. Europe is seen as a more feasible region to conduct tournaments at this present time with higher rates of vaccine implementation and less travel restrictions,” Lund said.

“While a number of tournament hosts in Asia are eager to stage tournaments, the general feedback surrounding COVID-19 restrictions and the uncertainty of the situation there has meant that it is likely only a few tournaments could possibly take place.

Unfortunately, though, we won’t be able to conduct any tournaments in China, and therefore won’t be able to host the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in its spiritual home in Guangzhou. But moving the Finals to Bali does allow us to stage the season finale within the busy 2021 tournament schedule.

The issue is, there is no official statement on it. And it's still on the BWF calendar. USA is still planning to have their World Jr tryouts later this year. Will it be moved like Sudirman Cup?

The Olympics are definitely on, ... although the debate still continues as to whether to permit any spectators, or not. Badminton is scheduled from July 24 to August 2.

There'll be official announcement soon but one thing for sure it will not be held in China as we're already the reason.

I have reached out to Korea and Taipei, but haven't heard back from either. Seems things aren't looking too positive at the moment. I'm sure Indonesia government worked something out with BWF to have some sort of bubble like Thailand. So that should be a lot less likely to be canceled.

Edit: Korea has a prospectus out as of now, which is a good sign. As long as there's not a huge surge in cases *fingers crossed*

Any idea where we will be able to watch the olympics badminton matches?

And I have found this website and what looks like a draw but I don't if this is genuine because I can't cross verify with a link from Olympics website.
