It was indeed an exciting match at All England 2020. It was unfortunate that in the decider the umpire called against LZJ at 19-19. That was clearly a desperate shot from Exelsen and because it was a 50-50, the call should not be made. That was a biased call in my opinion.

LZJ should improve on his overhead cross smash and not rely on the awkward reverse slice drop. Exelsen baited him to hit different shots from his deep left back court, and LZJ shots was predictable, often reverse slice drop or clear and Exelsen was ready for the smash down the line.

I think if LZJ gets the overhead cross smash right, there is no one he cannot beat.

Another skill he could do more is hold and change direction and I absolutely think he can do is as he has the size to cover the court well and able to get to any spot quickly, and that should allow him ample of time to hold and change. Perhaps learn a few tricks from Tai TsuYing.

He needs to have more attacking mindset. No attack, no win. The mood is similar to ginting. But ginting more consistent. ;)

Look at lcw. A lot of attacking play to win.
This guy chen long wannabe. Tak boleh lah. ;)

Seems recently there were quite some not so positive comments from LCW towards LZJ. I thought LZJ despite his flaws is still a good young talent. Why so harsh?

What will follow is only my opinion.

I think there is a double aspect about LCW's recent comments regarding LZJ.

    - LCW is protecting his legacy by emphasizing how hard he worked and how much he achieved by highlighting the gap left between LZJ and himself (they were compared a lot since 2019, not sure why, probably a sort of social pressure perspiring from the press for filling the big shoes of LCW).

    - LCW is challenging LZJ and hoping to hurt his feelings (just enough) so the latter show up to the next tournaments better prepared and mentally eager to prove himself.

LZJ's talent is there. I do not know how hard working he is during training. But it is rather obvious that his mindset is not yet the one of a winner. His confidence doesn't seem high enough. Again, only my opinion.

I hope he keeps getting better and prove some people wrong. He definitely has his future in his own hands. May be a big victory against a top player or a major tournament win would boost his ego.

i think so, too. he's one of the smoothest ms players i've seen in a while.
but it would take the mindset and confidence to do that. and so begins lzj's psychological journey...

a difficult journey indeed. Even LCW struggled in his own psychological journey.... not until towards the end did he manage to overcome much of himself... It seems harder for Malaysians than players from other countries when it comes to mental fitness and resilience

I think to brand lzj as lcw replacement is a hat too big for LZJ.

LCW is a legend, a generation types of talent.

But shouldn’t LCW know this also? That when we say someone is the next LCW, it’s more a wish as opposed to crowning someone. Seems in this case LCW took it a bit too seriously.

the problem with words is that the emotion part is not there. we readers has to imagines it.

i watched LZJ games over the 3 weeks, can see there is no fire in him.

maybe he not able to handle the pressure that's come with being the next LCW.

anyway, these young people are chosen to represent the country, and they are expected to handle the pressure that come with it.

it's not easy and at the moment, they are the best we have.

I notice his demeanor on the court very different this time, people said he had no fighting spirit, in the 20th point of second game, his return push clipped the top of the net. He didn't even apologize :) Go get the Olympic Gold that elluded Malaysia!

To be fair, when he stooped and poised to take that shot..he seems to be aiming for the tape.
