    French pair is stupendous.
    Many firsts
    1. Qualifying for the first time.
    2. Topping the group with 3 wins
    3. Entering the semis for the first time as well.
    Incredible.
Hope they maintain their form and win the title.
    I am rooting for them.

    DAY-4 | SEMIFINAL (10.00am & 05.00pm) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...27761E-0F66-40EB-9DE2-549DD88A58A2&d=20210130

WS and XD have no repetition of group stage draw as the three remaining discipline stay the same. Korea has most number of representatives in semifinal, very inspiring outcome.
    • It's DEN-TPE in men's singles, Viktor Axelsen is unstoppable at the moment, highly doubted that Chou Tien Chen could deny this mighty Danish player from final spot. The full confident All England Champion really smart to seize momentum in the absence of his nemesis Kento Momota. The player who supposed to be Axelsen's biggest stumbling block, Anthony Ginting is far from expectation rather than drowning for inconsistency problem. Anders Antonsen looks tired and lethargic when succumbed to the offensive player Wang Tzu Wei in last tie of group stage match, possibly to conserve his energy since he's already secured semis berth. We'll find out whether he would reverse the fortune tomorrow.
    • Tai Tzu Ying outlasts Ratchanok Intanon in marathon match, Thai star obviously ran out of steam, exhausted after seals opening game narrowly that draining her stamina too much. Carolina Marin looks casual facing An Se Young, the Olympic Champion is unfazed and said she played like training and didn't really care about that her defeat to Korean teen and will be ready for semifinal day, she will up against group B winner, Pornpawee Chochuwong.
    • The Daddies save Indonesia face, becoming the only survivor who advance into knock-out phase. Experience over youth, that's Ahsan/Setiawan formula to overcome Aaron Chia/Soh WY in do-or-die situation. But they must extra wary to meet Choi SG/Seo SJ whom they never beat in three previous encounters. Strong favourites Lee Y/Wang CL oppose ENG surprise package Lane/Vendy, the Taiwanese duo have really smooth path and look steady to book another final here.
    • Malaysian women's doubles pair Chow MK/Lee MY sneak out in last match, stun more fancied Polii/Rahayu in two straight-games. The Indonesians fitness level seem declined and apply quite wrong tactic in their group-stage plan. They involved in gruelling 94 mins to win over Lee SH/Shin SC at opening match. Looking at semifinal line-up, all-Korean-finals is very likely.
    • The impressive French youngsters Gicquel/Delrue will challenge home favorites Puavanukroh/Taerattanachai, one of most anticipated semifinal clashes to follow. Meanwhile Seo SJ/Chae YJ who create perfect score to win three times in group stage are favoured to overcome Goh SH/Shevon Jemie Lai. The Koreans outwit All England Champs Jordan/Oktavianti convincingly, something wrong with the Indonesians who looks like mediocre pair. No comment for another INA combination, Faizal/Widjaja who practically out of title contention.

idgaf about players screaming...the funny part is that ASY thinks she won some kind of monumental victory over 1/2 or 3/4 of Marin’s best effort.

    Per Badminton Europe:

Marin played a ‘training match’ against An

It was third time lucky in Thailand for Korea’s An Se Young against Carolina Marin. Although perhaps, according to Marin, it was indeed a little bit of luck as the Spaniard explains.

-I did not want to force myself today in the game. We played three games, but I did not care if I lose in three games, because my performance was okay today. I just wanted to play this match like a training match, so I lost, but I do not care a lot.

Carolina Marin, who was already qualified for the semifinal, and in the hunt for three titles in a row in Bangkok, had her sights firmly on the match tomorrow. She will play Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong whom she beat in the second round of week one in the Asian leg, 21-8, 21-12.

As if you had any idea how much effort she put it.....also, talk is cheap, especially after a loss. I wouldn't give statements like that too much weight. Chances are that she's not lying, but you can't play 'what if' in sports. Maybe she could've won with 100% effort, maybe she couldn't have, we'll never find out.
Please stop inferring what players (like ASY) think or how much effort they put in, there's absolutely no way you could know. For all you know, ASY was just pleased with her own performance, or Marin lied. We'll see what's up soon enough.

lol I can and will infer whatever I want from what I see during a match...and what I saw was Marin playing a rec match and ASY acting like she had just won the Olympics.

In case you forgot, Marin trounced ASY twice in straight sets within the last 2 weeks. You think last night Marin suddenly forgot how to power smash? Or you think she was too tired to run down block shots at full speed? Marin could probably still have run a half marathon after last night’s match.

If you knew anything about body language you’d see Marin was laissez faire the entire match and laughed off her mistakes like it was...surprise surprise, a training exercise. If you think she concocted a lie in her post match interview as a sore excuse for losing, then I’ve got some bridges for sale that you should take a look at...

BTW, huge props to whoever is responsible for the success of so many Taiwanese players. Sure, circumstances may have helped (some of their usual stumbling blocks from the JPN and CHN teams being absent), but it's been a while since I've seen 5 of them in semis, and even when it happened it wasn't 3 singles players.
Now if they could just get some female doubles players near the top again and pose some threath in WD and XD....:D Nevertheless, really good results for one of the smaller nations who had struggled for a while. Let's hope they can keep it up!

Watch out, we got a badass over here.....sure you can, but you probably know the saying about assuming.
I haven't watched the match, so I really have no impression of what it looked like, but it's really not that relevant to the point I was making. You're showing that classic fanboy attitude of hailing whatever your favorite says as objective truth.
That makes it pretty amusing that you should call me naive for reminding you that yes, people can lie. I didn't even say Marin did, and while her comment on the match seems a little tactless, it is indeed plausible. I simply find it ridiculous when people get too far in their 'what-if' games and make up entire stories of what would have enfolded if not for XYZ. I also think Marin embellished a little too much how little she cared about this match - again, not that she necessarily lied, but most competitors will still feel a little sting when they lose. Maybe that's the case here. Maybe it's not. Whatever.
This is sports. The only thing that you can actually rely on are the results. It's why you'll never find me spinning narratives about how player X or Y would have/wouldn't have won something if factor Z had played out differently, and why you'll never see me discrediting Marin's achievements.

    May have helped? :D
I also wouldn't call the garbage TTY and CTC have been displaying a "success". They're currently just less shite than the motley crew that could show up to these tournaments.

Yeah, I agree. The only way Polii and Rahayu did not qualify is that the result between them and Chow/Lee decided the tie.

I admire your persistence. You use every chance there is to prove that you missed my point, and instead you keep focusing on the player. I (= "somebody" = "the guy who spoke") am not going to take back a statement that is true. I never said Pornpawee was certain to avoid Marin if she lost. But it was the only way there was a chance of reducing a 50% chance of Marin to a 0% of Marin. But it depended on other results (and on the tie breaker rules, which I got wrong, apparently).

Next time I am going to prove a point about a potential flaw in the system, I will make sure to use Peter, Paul and Mary in my example instead of actual player names to better highlight my point.

seem like all eyes were on whatsoever result matchs marin vs an and pv vs chochu but none for rát tai

marin is very competition. Its a trainning match, losing is acceptable but ideally she definately want both, trainning and winning
pv vs chochu: obviosly the one already out want a win more than the one already in

Nothing changed on here. Users still freely trash professional players forgetting they provide them with entertainment during such hard times.

Yes CM screams like many other players.
Yes ASY is happy to win against CM regardless of the performance of the latter.
No, CTC or TTY and well apparently the rest of the players present in Thailand should not be measured in levels of "shite".

Granted it is missing some major players. Granted one can dislike some players and favour others but that's really low and too easy to criticize (and not even constructively) on here. Really. :(

Oh, the noblest of the noble, the most neutral of the neutral is back to take the moral high ground. Who would've thought. Not so long ago you were calling people "extremists" and "fanatics" on here. Thank god all those posts are no longer there for people to see so you can go on to tell people what they should and should not write. Hint: there is an ignore function. Use it.

It's over. I have the (moral) high ground.

You were the Chosen One. It was said you would destroy the trashtalkers, not join them. Bring civility to the forum, not leave it in barbarity.

    (I apologize. I couldn't help myself)

But yh, I'm glad we can at least all agree that the round robin/cross-semis system is terrible.

Well done An se young on topping your group. As a reward you now get to play the world no1 in the semis. Well done Gicquel/Delrue on topping your group. As a reward you now get to play the winners of the last 2 tournaments and arguably the pair most likely to eliminate you in the semis.

They still have done incredibly well in Thailand. This will hopefully translate to confident performances when the tournaments are more open again.

They haven't lost yet!:D But the fact that losing in the group phase might have been better for them in their effort to reach the final shows the failure of the tournament format.
