The hype started from 4th January when all players and entourage step up into Suvarnabhumi Airport as buzzed by relentless updates of numerous badminton social media platform including BWF Official accounts. Breaking news emerged prior to THA Open arrival deadline, two badminton powerhouses China and Japan withdrew from this much anticipated badminton battle with different reason. CBA players failed to get government clearance to go abroad while the prominent star Kento Momota was tested positive that forcing entire Bird Japan squad cancelled trip for Bangkok meet. Then INA iconic duo The Minions also pulled out following Sukamuljo tested positive of COVID-19. TAKING CHANCES. Without Kento Momota presence, a string of title contenders that considered to flying high will focus on top ranked players despite it’s tough to gauge their overall performance as an impact of the unprecedented long break and few tournaments in last 12 months. Two Danish protagonists Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen who clinched last two BWF premiere title, All England and Denmark Open respectively among the frontrunners alongside Chou Tien Chen, Anthony Ginting, Jonatan Christie. The rising Malaysian young star Lee Zii Jia may continue his outstanding streak, thanks to 2020 early year hits before halted by the pandemic. TAI-ONE FAVORITE. The most fascinating category where there's none dominant force in last five years, more or less they have equal chance to nail the victory. In Bangkok this time, the competition will be toned down a bit following the absence of China and Japan top players. All England champion Tai Tzu Ying finds major tests that could be intrepreted through home darling Ratchanok Intanon, the Olympic Champion Carolina Marin and World Champion Pusarla V.Sindhu. Potential stunner contains KOR wonder teen An Se Young, Canadian ace Michelle Li and Spain Masters winner Pornpawee Chochuwong. BLANK SPOT. Some notable absentees in doubles department will shrink the competitive level inevitably. Men's doubles juggernaut INA will rely on three-time World Champions Ahsan/Setiawan and 2018 Asian Games silver medalists Alfian/Ardianto. A handful of their possible opponents could be Aaron C/Soh WY, Choi SG/Seo SJ, Astrup/Rasmussen or Lee Y/Wang CL. Three Korean pairs and Polii/Rahayu fill the women's doubles hot favorite list in the absence of their nemesis, Japan and China combinations. Home biggest hope Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai and reigning All England Champions Jordan/Oktavianti are scripted to face off in last round, interesting to wait whether the other participants could derail the ideal final in mixed doubled discipline. Good game by RankiReddy/Ashwini, typical G2 but showed some real skills and composure in G3. Widjaja was quick to make her presence felt on occasions, Faizal not so much. So happy to see badminton back in action. Pity that SN withdrew
Just read that Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy have tested positive for Covid. Hope other players are safe. https://www.google.com/amp/s/zeenew...19-positive-in-thailand-open-2335387.html/amp
Full comedy at thailand open badminton. Saina was supposed to play today. She tested positive and had to withdraw. She already had covid last month. What's the point of re-testing? Test could be positive for few months due to dead virus particles lurking around - it doesnt mean person is infective to others. Re-testing is NOT recommended at least for 3 months after first positive covid report. Same story with HS Prannoy. By the way, hosting a tournament at the peak of the pandemic in the country is not a good idea either.
i'd like to know what bwf/bat consider close proximity. teams have been bussing from hotel to practice all together. something's not right...
there's no joy in saying 'i told you so...' | https://www.badmintoncentral.com/fo...en-2021-entry-list.187472/page-4#post-2795404 bwf/bat's '14 day quarantine period' is not how quarantines are carried out. this tournament can actually be considered a super-spreading event. arriving on the 4th, starting practice on the 6th? that's a 2-day q'tine in my book. who the hell green lighted their plan? what does bwf/bat consider close proximity? shouldn't the entire indian team be withdrawn? teams have been bussing from hotel to practice and back... all together... in the same bus. 824 people were negative on the 6th, now 2 people are positive on the 11th... 5 days. what say you bwf/bat? how's your '14 day quarantine period' working out? you forgot the most important part of q'tine... isolation. nobody should be surprised by this.
Will Indian players be allowed to play now that saina has been tested positive ? In European leg last year, lakshya's father was positive. Due to that , BWF didn't let Subhankar Dey and Ajay Jayaram play and placed them in quarantine.
If they don't let India players go on, so that they should stop the tournaments because ALL PLAYERS practice in the same place. And how about the STAFFS ?
