It is a bit of a mixed bag:

Korea: No players have been entered
Indonesia: Players have been entered, and are listed on Version 1 of the M & Q, but it is likely that they will be withdrawn before Version 2 is published.
Thailand: Players were entered, but mostly removed before the closing date. Wangcharoen Kantaphon remains on the list.
Taiwan: Chou Tien Chen and MD Wang/Lee are listed. Other players, including Tai Tzu Ying, decided not to enter.

So Thailand and other nations from Asia are blackmailing the world association to cancel the TC / UC because it is too dangerous for the players in Denmark because of Covid? And now they say ok, all can come for three big tournaments to Thailand? That's not OK ! As Anders Antonsen writes, this will kill the Badminton !

    Asians force World Cup cancellation

    BY JENS KRAGH IVERSEN
The Asian associations, especially Indonesia and Korea, are forcing the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to cancel the Thomas & Uber Cup final round.
One major badminton event after another in Danish halls was planned for October, but nothing will come of it.

The team world championships, the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup, should have been held in Aarhus from October 3rd to 11th, but the two decisions have been postponed to 2021, the organizers have said in a press release.

The big badminton nations Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan all canceled their participation and forced the International Badminton Federation (BWF) to take this step.

"We were hoping that the time would have come for Denmark to host the World Championships for both male and female national teams for the first time. We had prepared everything so that the event could take place in accordance with the guidelines in a safe and healthy environment, but unfortunately it has the Corona situation has developed nationally and internationally in a direction where the players do not want or cannot travel to Denmark, "says Bo Jensen, Managing Director of the Danish Badminton Association.

At the same time the Denmark Masters in Odense was canceled at the end of October. The Denmark Masters are the World Tour tournament that the Danish Association took over because of the canceled YONEX French Open.

Badminton Danmark still hopes to be able to host the Denmark Open World Tour tournament in Odense, which is planned for mid-October.

"It is important for the sport, for the fans and for the players that the wheels are set in motion again like in other sports," said Bo Jensen.

The national coach sees this differently.

"It would be naive to believe that the Denmark Open are not in danger," says Kenneth Jonassen, who is primarily annoyed that the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup have been postponed: "We spent six months on this big one Goal worked, and that's why it's super annoying that it won't take place now. I'm also worried that the decisions will be postponed to 2021, when we already have a jam-packed schedule. That is not the right solution for me. "

The national coach had spoken out in favor of an implementation.

"The championship should have been played with the nations that had decided to come, even if some of the top nations had stayed away," said Jonassen.

I don't think it is right to just blame Thailand and other Asian countries who did not want to take part this time. The main blame is the ones who decide to postpone.(that is BWF)
I am not sure whether the sponsor put the pressure, if the sponsor put the pressure, then it is different.
But if the sponsor did not put the pressure, then BWF should just go ahead and hold it as scheduled. Invite more European countries who wants to take part.

    Such incompetent sport governing body:eek:

DEN Open will feat European players as most of Asian representatives skip this tournament. Both China and Japan are in doubts whether they still send shuttlers to Odense or follow suit.

Japan's current position is that the team WILL participate in the Denmark Open. The NBA is clear on this point, and a national training camp has been scheduled for October 1 - 10 to prepare for the tournament.

I really hope that they make it to Denmark. Denmark deserves as much support as it can get.

he contradicts himself based on not understanding who is in control.

he blames the rule of frozen olympic points. well, bwf made that rule, not asian nations or players —from ANY country— through a democratic stakeholder bylaw. how many times have federations said 'we are waiting to see what bwf says' and NEVER 'we voted for <xyz>'...?!?! he also brought up the point of how players are paid differently. it's a consequence of another bwf rule giving federations ownership of players which negates any decision an individual might want to make.

does the danish author of this article truly understand how bwf runs things? is he a typical tv opinion reporter or is he known in denmark as a professional badminton journalist?

i can forgive his hometown bias angle but is the rest of his opinion based on laziness, ignorance, or both? it most certainly wasn't fact-based knowledge or logic.

Yes, the argument there is no ranking point is irrelevant. Forcing top players to play by rewarding ranking point is definitely not the right way. Even if top players are not going, I am sure there are many other players who probably willing to play for the glory but then if the badminton association decide not to go, then what can they do.
