Naturally , with my home country out of the tournament, The Thomas and Uber Cup becomes worthless.

Doesnt need to write 4 or 5 paragraphs to write why the competition wont be worth it while your team is still in the competition, eh?

Think Denmark or Japan will win TC. Talk to you guys next year.

JPN/DEN to win TC, & CHN/JPN to win UC.

From badmintalk, players who will not take part 1 of 4 tours (Denmark Open 750 x2 and "Asia" x2) will not qualify in HSBC WTF.

I think this will prevent other teams from withdrawing T/U Cup.

Now, INA and KOR have also withdrawn, that's what I feared, so much uncertainty.

Four of the top 8 teams are out, THA, TPE, INA, KOR - what now?

You mean none of INA stars will be able to play in the BWF Tour final? Ginting, Minions & Daddies?

    Huge blow to Finals
    Saturday, 12 Sep 2020

PETALING JAYA: The absence of top Asian teams will be sorely felt at this year’s Thomas-Uber Cup Finals.

Yesterday, Indonesia and South Korea broke the dreaded news when they announced their withdrawal from badminton’s premier team events scheduled from Oct 3-11 in Aarhus, Denmark, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Both countries have now joined the growing list of withdrawals which already consist of Taiwan, Thailand and Australia.

Indonesia’s absence will leave the biggest impact as they are one of the giants of the game.

The men’s team have won the Thomas Cup 13 times while the women have brought home the Uber Cup thrice.

Their decision came a day after their government reimposed a large-scale movement control order after a spike of new Covid-19 cases.

The All-Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) made the announcement after the teams’ final day simulation competition in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, according to a Korean Badminton Association (KBA) official they have also decided to skip two subsequent tournaments – the Danisa Denmark Open from Oct 13-18 and the Denmark Open 2 from Oct 20-25.

Heavyweights China and Japan are also likely to pull out which will leave the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in a predicament.

They may either do a redraw or shorten the Finals. The worst-case scenario is they will scrap both tournaments.

*A cancellation or the show must go on by BWF?

They are in the MQReport from the Denmark Open. So for me it doesn't make any sense to withdraw in Thomas/Uber-Cup and then make the entry to the Denmark Open one week later.

In mq2, they'll withdraw I guess. In mq1 withdrawal date was way before 10-11 September (when withdrawal of INA team from TUC was announced)

    Yes , you are right!
I don't know if it is a decision by the Indonesian government that the players are not allowed to travel. But then I think it's a wrong decision. I am sure that the players in the "bubble" Denmark would be safe for three weeks.

Everything's fine as long as players are healthy. Assuming a player or whole team gets infected, will PBSI or organizers take the blame ? It's a very tough decision to make. In the end, PBSI took a decision for the greater good of their athletes. I know this was a great chance for INA but honestly who would compromise health with anything?

Because of the 14 days quarantine before Denmark Open 1, players have to come before Thomas/Uber Tournament, and if it so, why don't they just take part in Thomas/Uber Cup ?

Although I am sad that Indonesia is not taking part, I don't think it is right to postpone again.
I still believe the champion is the true champion.

Cases are rising in Denmark, Finland and Europe as a whole.
