I've got this sinking feeling Tokyo 2020 will not go ahead this year. Just as well, otherwise, Japan is certain to suffer a huge surge in Covid-19 cases and the epidemic spiraling out of control, too high a price to pay in human terms. Very sad.

He was travelling in Europe and I think one of his last stops was the USA before recently returning to Japan.

Wait until the last moment before stating a decision.

Everybody can see it will need a miracle to happen.

You might be right. Let's just wish for that miracle to happen then because if the Olympics still happen, it would imply we got rid of that virus to some extent! And that would be the actual miracle. A bit of hope never hurt these days... :(

Looks like IOC is seeking the right time to announce postponement decision, they hope unprecedented miracle could happen on time before July 24th.

Postponing Olympics would be the best decision.if they go ahead of the games may not be successful due to concern and fear among the people

True just pospone it or cancel it wholetogether.

It will be lucky for players to have something to eat let alone competing. survival is the highest order.

Not sure if the virus has impacted the people in this forum but it has just started to affect mine..

According to epidemiology statistical models the covid 19 pandemic will most likely peak severely around early July in US, UK and most of EU before petering out by late August. Other severely affected countries are 1-2 wks ahead (eg. Italy, Spain, Korea) while others are under some control (eg. HK, Singapore, Taiwan).

If the IOC needs to decide on Tokyo OG by end of May, they better keep this curve in mind. Firstly, not too many spectators will be in the right mood (in fact, they would be out of their mind!) to purchase overseas plane tickets when covid infections are just beginning to peak, and secondly take the crazily irresponsible risk of potentially falling ill with covid in a foreign country that may not have enough critical care beds to handle such an avoidable disaster if covid were to resurge with tens upon thousands of foreign spectators (and athletes and their support team!) visiting Japan. And I'd bet that international travel restrictions will still be in place at that time such that you can't even purchase a plane ticket to Tokyo even if you wanted to!

Better to postpone for a few months at least, or till next year when we have enough herd immunity and a vaccine available.
