CYF has a good chance to take the gold in tokyo, she's much more complete now.

That’s assuming she’s not banned for having the worst hair cut I’ve ever seen on a female badminton player.

for individual sports it is rare that a player/pair dominates and maintains a #1 ranking for longer than 130 consecutive weeks (2.5 years) at their peak. that's not to say they still can't win a couple more major or top tier tournaments. the few who have sustained a level of domination longer than 2.5 years are the outliers... the legends... the few to be considered as potential/eventual goats.

the 'legend' tag can be given for many reasons: longevity, trailblazer, unexpected results. peter gade is considered a legend for longevity. he was not ranked #1 for longer than 2 years. however, i would definitely consider him the european goat. his overall and deserving legend status is mainly due to his longevity in the top 4. 'legend' status can also be attributed to trailblazers ('being the first < x > to...') ie. gopichand, saina nehwal, srikanth kidambi & pv sindhu.

i agree. plus i consider 2014 his breakthrough year. he won 4 big ones: korea, worlds, denmark & ss finals. then dominated 2015. in the end he did not dominate for longer than 2 years. so you have a) dominated for 1.5 years, b) has 2 wc's and olympic gold. where does that place him in the badminton history books? goat? obviously not. legend? no. among the best to play of his generation? yes.

this is why i'm not head over heels with kevin/marcus or tty yet. it's still early but i think they're headed for legend status. however, they'll never be the goat(s) due to the lack of multiple wc & olympic gold. it's too late.

Yup , can say CL dominated for 2 years. got 2WC & OG and 20+ SS titles. I will rate him above TaufikHidayat but i rate LCW above him. I'm not sure who has more prize money. Despite what GOAT is, i will ask who is the more succesful player? and imo, that means who has the most prize money. still in both categories LCW > CL i believe.

one can say Sindhu is a super succesful player , no one can deny her that even without WC gold. These days, this category is more important. No one can have everything , imo, unless he is the great LinDan. but even LD prize money isnt that much even taking into inflation.

For Minions, they have broken almost every record there is to be broken in MD but even with or without WC or OG, is it enough? Dont think so. I think they can achieve more which means nothing is definite. They can still win Fuzhou 5x in a row, can win AE 3x which very few pair did it (cant remember who the last to do it), so the list goes on. They have dominated for 3 full years, imo, they are close to legendary status. The fact they are watched by pundits is testament to their longevity. Can they hold it for longer?

They are playing opponents that are 3 levels below them. Its just like MD playing against MaasTabeling or LamsfussSeidel..

it's all about title count, title status & longevity. the money keeps increasing and is out of the players control. many players in the future will be passing the goat in earnings w/out ever winning a bunch of titles, or even a single title.
    • lcw, chen long and momota are already way past him in earnings: $1.8m, $1.35m & $1.22m respectively to ld's $1.05m.
    • ld has 665 wins, momota 330... less than half of the wins but $170,000 more.
    • lcw 69 titles, ld 66 titles, chen long 31, momota 26
    • career winning %: lcw 84.0, ld 83.9, momota 80.9, cl 79.6
    • ld v lcw h2h - 28-12 for ld
    • length of career: lcw 17 yrs, ld 17+, cl 11+, momota 6+
    • you get $0.00 for wc & olympic titles. the goat has 7, cl 3, momota 2, lcw 0
let's say ld isn't the goat and ask 1 ?'n from the above data: who is the more successful player?

    my vote: lin dan.

if the 7 wc/og's paid money equivalent to the prestige of the title ld would have more $ than lcw (a player of his generation with equal earning opportunities) from still playing fewer tournaments.

Short haircut saves around 10 to 15 gr of hair, just think of it as a 6u weight class of hair instead of marin 3u, saves you more energy

Li/Liu play like they have lost. They have lost the winning attitude.
