ShiYuqi's victory over Sai Praneeth, coming from behind after dropping G1, 21-11, to take the next two sets, 21-18 and 21-12, is a bit concerning as well as heartening, mixed feelings for me.

No idea. Maybe the organizer expects Lin Dan to crash out of R2 without fuss or they are hoping those unsold R2 tickets be snapped up tomorrow.

J O Jorgensen also did well to boot out Kantaphon Wangcharoen.

    • No major upset happened for men's singles segment yesterday as the match progressing into second round. With Kento Momota pulled out, chance for Viktor Axelsen or Chen Long to snatch final ticket. The Olympic Champion tames Shesar Hiren Rhustavito in slow pace match, 21-18 / 21-18 while 2017 World Champion overpowers Son Wan Ho with two quick games, 21-9 / 21-14. Other result on upper half draw mentioniong Shi Yuqi - still recovering from blister on his right toe that forced him to retire in Fuzhou CHN Open second round - eliminates Sai Praneeth, just wondering about the Indian performance since this match was played at court 4 last night. BWF news reported Praneeth played inconsistenty, below par and blew away the opportunity against the struggling Chinese, 11-21 / 21-18 / 21-12.
    • Anthony Ginting succeeds to avenge his defeat over home favourite Ng Ka Long, 21-16 / 17-21 / 21-11 and takes on Jan O Jorgensen next. The Indonesian playing more patient in long rallies, changing the pace then seized chances to unleash hard smash. His compatriot Jonatan Christie also books last sixteen spot, beating local hopeful Wong Wing Ki despite created blunder in opening game. Badminton iconic star Lin Dan passes first round this time to tackle Hans Kristian Vittinghus in marathon match and has another Danish foe to confront, current world number 3 Anders Antonsen. Chou Tien Chen had tough battle to down the highly spirited Kanta Tsuneyama, 21-5 / 24-26 / 21-15.
    • In women's singles discipline, 8th seed Saina Nehwal crashed out in first round, losing once again to China back up Cai Yanyan, 13-21 / 22-24. Cai is scheduled to face Zhang Beiwen who subdued the vast improved Canadian Michelle Li, 21-18 / 21-18. Also safely through into next phase, Japanese stars Nozomi Okuhara-Akane Yamaguchi, the latter presents better performance to reverse fortune, disposing Sonia Cheah, 21-16 / 21-16. Pusarla Sindhu, Ratchanok Intanon, Chen Yufei complete the last sixteen line-up. Meanwhile He Bingjiao needs to dig deep to oust Mia Blichfeldt, close contest in third game before He took initiative to attack aggressively
    • Two seeded men's doubles tumbled early, Kamura/Sonoda going down to Korean lethal duo Choi SG/Seo SJ straight forwardly, 19-21 / 18-21. 7th seed Han CK/Zhou HD can't find solution to beat Danish veterans Boe/Conrad here, bow out in three games. Top contenders the Minions and Daddies advancing without serious trouble.
