Man in spotlight, Kento Momota continues his journey to Bangkok after defend Japan Open crown on Sunday. Viktor Axelsen, Anthony Ginting and Jonatan Christie are among notable absentees in men’s singles draw followed by the withdrawal of second seed Shi Yu Qi who’s still recuperating left ankle injury. Chou Tien Chen, Chen Long, Srikanth Kidambi, Sameer Verma fill seeding position alongside with two Japanese representatives Kenta Nishimoto and defending champion Kanta Tsuneyama. A disastrous result of Chinese MS in previous Super 1000 & 750 event delivering gloomy prospect ahead forthcoming World Champs, how far they could make amends here is interesting to wait. All England champion Chen Yufei occupies top seed in the absence of world number one Tai Tzu Ying. Being semifinalist twice in Jakarta and Tokyo, Chen seeks the reversal of fortune in Bangkok and the road is open wide considering her biggest obstacle and the leading contender Akane Yamaguchi just pulled out of this tournament. But the Chinese number one should pay attention first to Korean rising star An Se Young who potentially could ruin her party. On bottom-half draw title-holder Nozomi Okuhara and Pusarla V.Sindhu have withdrawn, leaving local heroine Ratchanok Intanon is hot favourite to go further at home soil. Strong line-up in doubles category will looking forward to Gideon/Sukamuljo aiming high to carve BWF World Tour hat-trick, concurrently with two-time World Champions Ahsan/Setiawan they become headline in last two weeks, underscoring Indonesia solid position in men’s doubles world badminton map. Women's doubles title contention will pit Japan and rest of world, waiting Korean new sensations Kim/Kong stunning action, they’re drawn to meet Malaysia pair Vivian Hoo/Yap CW in opening round and slated to face world number Matsumoto/Nagahara at quarters. The incredible duo Zheng/Huang cancel their trip to Bangkok, after suffered quarterfinal shocking exit last week but world number two pair staying in fray, trying to maintain China supremacy in mixed doubles podium. Tokyo final replay may occurs prematurely in last eight if both pairs could pass preliminary boundaries, Wang/Huang versus Jordan/Oktavianti. Her points from winning Thailand Open last year is already lost. I guess she will use that time to train and improve her skills.
A choice she wouldn't have been able to take if she was not independent. If it pays off... that would be interesting. Yet AY is on a strike. That will be interesting to see what strategy will pay off between those two players. NO taking a risk by going off the beaten path (in Japanese standards). I'm still surprised by her decision as Basel is not really just right after the Thailand open tournament. There was still some time to rest in between tournaments. EDIT: my bad AY withdrawed too...
Unfortunately, there is not much time for rest. The infamous Japanese national training camp fits snuggly between both tournaments. Ouch!!
Alright that explains why...You already mentioned about that in another question of mine lately. My bad...
2019 and we do have all courts streamed in hd. yeea anyone knows why momota gave a walkover for tomorrows match?
Wow! Ou/Zhang won over He/Tan!! And barely... 15-21 21-18 24-22. I missed their match, but thanks to BadmintonThailand Official youtube channel, I can watch the replay. Well done Thailand Open!!
Yeah. No use of 'any' good foreign coaches... They will play like this always . So, what's the use of talking about the need of doubles coaches , just an eye wash for me .
High quality live streaming in YouTube. Fantastic effort by Thailand Badminton Association. Play hard. Train harder.
