SEMIFINAL (01.00pm) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...8D2F4B-98AE-4874-8222-77E7E2FFD0C6&d=20190504 Lin Dan clears one of toughest hurdles for his campaign to defend the title here, Indonesian number one Anthony Ginting. The most interesting part that seized attention happened in opening game when Ginting delayed the Chinese victory to force deuce but the Chinese superstar survived in 25-23, the next two games were lousy one way traffic match, 6-21 and 21-12. Lin will up against the resilient Ng Ka Long to progress, this HKG player is stretched into the limit by Malaysian new leading man, Lee Zii Jia, 21-17 / 11-21 / 21-19. Jonatan Christie passes quarterfinal round smoothly, practically former WJC Sun Feixiang is no match for the Indonesian idol, 21-11 / 21-9. The Asian Games champion will meet Kanta Tsuneyama who's crawling back from 5-11 in second game to frustrate Prannoy, what a waste of opportunity by the Indian. Asian Champion Akane Yamaguchi shows her class to Indonesia potential player Gregoria Mariska, the Japanese is too strong in terms of agility, accuracy, consistency and technical skill, still needs more time for Mariska to climb into top ten rank. An interesting semifinal clash tomorrow will pit Yamaguchi against Olympic Champion Li Xuerui who tackles defending champion Sayaka Takahashi in two straight-games. Korean young sensation An Se Young continues brilliant run to stun Zhang Beiwen and facing Aya Ohori next. Former champion Ohori tames the well-determined Chinese junior Wang Zhiyi, 21-16 / 21-23 / 21-12 It's 2-1 for JPN-MAS duel in men's doubles quarters and all Japanese affairs in last four as expected, the two on-fire combinations facing off, Kamura/Sonoda versus Endo/Watanabe, both pairs eliminate the rising Malaysian pairs, Aaron Chia/Soh WY and Ong YS/Teo EY respectively. Meanwhile Rio OG silver medalists Goh VS/Tan WK vanquish Inoue/Kaneko and will take one reigning All England Champion Ahsan/Setiawan for a place in final, the latter came back from behind to overcome TPE duo Lee Y/Wang CL, 18-21 / 21-19 / 21-14. Fukushima/Hirota and Matsutomo/Takahashi look unstoppable in this tournament, the former have tricky tests, Korean pair Kim SY/Kong HY to advance into last round, the Koreans halt Matsumoto/Nagahara in three games. The Olympic Champions have chance to avenge their last week losing in Wuhan to Chinese back-ups Dong WJ/Feng XY. Two Indonesian mixed doubles pairs should take benefit in the absence of world's top four that always be their stumbling block in many tournaments regularly. Faizal/Widjaja will face difficult rival to deal with, the higher-ranked Chan PS/Goh LY while Jordan/Oktavianti are favoured to eliminate the unheralded TPE pair Wang CL/Cheng CY. Oh, yes, very , very sure - you mean you're not aware granddaddies can't afford three-setters ? Just ask Lee Hyun Il, Hu Yun, Nguyen Tien Minh, and other members of their club. However,Lee Chong Wei is a rare exception but exception doesn't make the rule (still, it hasn't been easy for him, either)..
I didn't even think for a bit that LD showed any sign of being out of stamina at all today. And in case you forget, LD won most of his matches in MO in 3 games.
I didn't say he ran out of stamina today, only that he played an energy-saving G2 and gave it up to conserve energy for G3 when he fell far behind, by about 10 points. Had he mot done so, I'd be rather worried if he might not have enough stamina to cope with AG's fast pace. Anyway, the MO was a stand-alone tourney , not back-to-back, no doubt, his stamina has improved but it's still too early to say it's no longer an issue, certainly not for a 35-year-old, in my opinion. Don't forget, it's only the QFs, there're two more rounds to go. Let's wait and see. I'm hoping for the best.
An se young is for real? Korea have been struggling in all categories the past 2 years. We need a sensation to break out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just clearly the best talent in WS. If she stays injury-free, she'll be a top player soon. She's got everything: creativity, touch, height, a good smash already, and that change of pace that only the best can come up with. The end of game two shows lack of experience more than anything.
Praveen/Melati advance to the Final. If Hafiz/Gloria can defeat Chan/Goh, all INA XD will happen tomorrow.
so much for Ohori winning the tournament....someone needs a reality check n possibly a new set of idols
All credit to An Se Young for out-nerving her opponent at the age of seventeen. But Ohori made so many (unforced) errors in G3. What a wasted chance.
