Ahsan was certainly not the strongest smasher in MD out there but to me he was one of the most effective! He was able to smash with good angle and power effortlessly and varied with great drop shots which caught many players...

Forever underrated. he was the best player on court when they won the world title in 2013 and asian games in 2014. will forever be one of my favorite backcourt player of all time because of his style of play.

I personally think his quick lateral movement and follow-up towards the net were his main strengths. His angles were nothing to write home about, imop, and you could clearly see the effort when he had to smash hard several times in one rally (that's not really a critique or anything, he just isn't one of the big physical guys)...what he really improved was his flat and net play. It used to be a sure winning strategy to play it to him at the net, especially soft shots, he really changed that. In a way, a bit like FHF improving on his weaker areas, only that he did it earlier in his career :D

Watched the highlights of BCA Indonesia open 2014 QF between MA/HS and MFG/MK which was posted in BWF Facebook page. Why were both pairs having coaches on their side when same country matches don't have coaches generally?

Gideon/Kido were independent players back then so they were not in the same "team" as Ahsan/Hendra who were still in the national team at that time.

Mentor mentee relationship in doubles is quite good :p younger players learn a lot from their seniors.

Sorry for doubting you hendra :p he's playing so well at indonesia masters, both of them are playing well. it's like watching them at their prime again :p to this day I'm still amazed by their awareness and shot quality, when you're playing against ahsan/hendra most likely you will be forced to defend most of the time :D

    Good luck for tomorrow's final!

I can't help but feeling that Ahsan/Hendra could be considered lucky in draw to be in the other half without any other INA pairs though surrounded by the CHN players. Though of course it wasn't luck that made them in the final tomorrow. Beating 3 CHN pairs in a row including 2 of which had beaten minions at least once before.

no way. they have the China twin towers in their half, a pair whom have beaten them in the last 5 matches.
and now they are meeting the minions who won their last 4 matches between them. hope to see Ahsan/Hendra win the final.

In the other half they would have minions or Fajar/Rian.
To me CHN pairs are not as dangerous in Istora as INA pairs. If they had faced INA pair on the way, they might not have been in the final today. So that's what I meant by they were lucky in draw en-route to final.

    Go Ahsan/Hendra!!
If they win the title, they'd better not forget to say thank you to Liu/Zhang for beating minions first. :p

next opponent: the MAS rookies Aaron/Soh, head to head is 2-0, but this time might be tougher as one Hendra Setiawan possible leg injury, two the MAS rookies beaten former world champion Liu/Zhang and recent INA young promising pair Fajar/Rian...
