How are Tang Yuanting and two other ex-CHN players, namely Qin Jinjing (I remember her) and Yan Runze (his name doesn't ring a bell) able to play in the Australian National Championships meant for Australians (PRs included ?) ?

Is TYT an international student studying in Australia ? I guess so.

Would she play for Australia one day ? Hard to say.

    I see
That's why she is so close to Gronya

I extremely hope that she will play again, representing AUS this time :D
A player as her caliber is more than enough for AUS to offer her some residence permit I believe
And while the organization is not as mature as in China, but I guess she is happier in AUS especially after what she experienced last time

http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2018-09-02/doc-ihiixzkm3457004.shtml (a summary of the main points follows. leaving out some details that are already well-known and reported earlier)

Tang Yuanting is currently studying at the University of Sydney in Australia, majoring in Master of Education. Back then in China before she suddenly quit badminton, took a break, finally retired and then flew to Australia, she's known to be a top student or bookworm.

In fact before she chose to study in Australia, she was considering pursuing her academic studies in one of the three countries, namely, Australia, Canada and United Kingdom, among which she was actually offered an attractive scholarship to study in England. In the end she settled for Sydney University as she regarded highly what they offered as a specialty and at the same time she has many friends there.

While in Australia she joined a badminton club . She claimed there is no national training center , no centralised system in Australia, with their players training at their own clubs, and basically there is no full-time badminton professionals. In February this year she represented her club to take part in the national championships. Her other status as a badminton player contributes in some way to her academic program. However, naturally, her main focus is on her studies, playing badminton only in her spare time and doubling up as a coach in her club to earn some pocket money.

She added that in the past when she was a national player in China, everything was planned and arranged for her according to schedule, now in Australia with a new identity she has to arrange everything herself, apart from attending classes according to the timetable, the rest she is on her own, even have to take care of the necessities of life, such as food, clothing, accommodation and transport; in short, quite a lot she has to do by herself.

But no matter how heavy her schoolwork, the bookworm in her has not neglected her reading habit. At the end of the interview, upon request by the reporters, she recommended a book to her fans," ' The History of Mankind', the title sounds terrific, containing very interesting points of view."

[Strange, the picture provided by the author showed her standing outside the University of Melbourne whereas the article itself mentioned her as studying in the University of Sydney - Justin L]

Seriously, I can't help to imagine her playing in the circuit again, even if it is with Gronya or any Aussie's player :(

Bao Yixin dan Tang Yuanting Jadi Pelatih Bulu Tangkis di Australia
    BULUTANGKIS
    07/08/2018, 19:59 WIB | Editor: Banu Adikara

Semasa aktif membela Tiongkok, Yixin/Yuanting tercatat hanya dipasangkan satu kali, namun mereka langsung menorehkan prestasi.

Presumably, the Badzine article in question is this one. The link from the Badzine article to the July 21st posting on NBC's Facebook was broken but it has been repaired.
