so as i was replacing my original grip on my racquet, i was wondering wat's the secret inside the cone. because no matter how hard u smash or swing, the wood will never come out! and i looked at the wood and the cone (after ungripping the handle) and saw nothing special... HOW HOW HOW HOW!??!?!

and also... the shaft, it's just like the handle, it wont slide out no matter how hard u swing. how much long does it extend into the cone!?!?!?!

    anyone know?!?!?!?

you are right, nothing special. see these pics. i believe the glue used to fit handle to shaft is very strong. the shaft is glued into at least half way to 2/3 of the handle length.

and just imagine, if u accidentally spilled this glue on the chair and sat on it, the chair won't come off no matter how hard you swing...:D :p .

the shaft of a yonex racket usually goes in the handle about 1/4 to 1/3 and secured with a screw or something. I have seen the X-ray pictures posted on bbesports' forum, which are pretty cool. nowdays because fakes are getting better, some people in china use x-ray to determine the authenticity of the rackets. they just check see if the built in t joint is there. ;)

hiya, yes the glue is super strong, but the force that is pulling on the racquet head and shaft isn't as great as you might think. it's all about centripetal force, which is dependant on the mass of the shaft and head, speed of the swing and the length of your racquet.

your racquet in total weighs less than 100g, at an estimate (seeing that the balance point on a racquet is nearer the handle) the shaft and head are less than 50g. racquet length is almost 70cm.

i'm not sure how to estimate racquet head speed. would it be faster than the final shuttle speed? or so the strings generate some of the speed? seems hard to believe that a player could accelerate a racquet to more than 350km/h (abour 100m/s)

    but say they did :)

your looking a a net force of

    0.05 * 10000/0.7 = 710N

the force exerted by a fencing sword by comparison is 800N - and doesn't even pierce thru the jackets - which are merely thick cloth.

so you see - the force isn't really that great...

Yes, the yonex racquets have a screw that is drilled into the handle and through the base of the shaft. Though i have removed the screw and tried to pull out the shaft, but wasn't successful, thus the glue is pretty strong.

    Really???

Wouldn't the cost of the x-ray machine or even to 'rent' the time just to x-ray a racquet be more than just paying the right price for a real racquet? Unless you already have free access to an x-ray machine.

How about a metal detector like the one they use on the beach? Did anyone tried them before?

no no. hospital, hospital! we dont have the stupid appointment thing there. you just go to the hospital and tell the counter you want to check you bones or something and pay the fee, which I remember is like 20 RMB. (=2.5 USD) Then, go to the x-ray room and let the specialist to take the picture. They dont mind about taking a x-ray picture of the racket as long as they get the money.:p

    Hi Frank,

I wish you good luck when you visit US. I wish you will not need a x-ray in hospital. I remenber the dentist charge $35 to insurance company for my x-ray. Hospital? I think it will cost $70. I think the cheapest way to x-ray your racquet is to take it on the flight as a carry on so security will x-ray it for free.
