I started Astaxanthin 6 weeks ago because for some unaccountable reason I started having pains in my left knee one evening when playing. As my right knee started taking the extra strain to protect the left, this one then began to be troublesome! Anyway, I felt it was worth a shot so bought a supply of the antioxidant and began taking it daily. After 3 weeks the discomfort in my knees had subsided, and now 6 weeks later I can play freely again without any aches and pains. On that basis I'd recommend it, even though my playing less badminton may have aided the recovery.

Thanks Dimo for the info. Was your knee pain due to the Patella ?
how often did you take in day? 2-3 times a day?
And any particular brand that you would recommend. Not sure if Singapore have any of this medication, have not started to look at the pharmacies here on the avalability of these medication....maybe will visit a pharmacy later today to find out...

It was Swanson Ultra astaxanthin 4mg. I took only 1 daily. You can get it online from https://www.swansonvitamins.com/astaxanthin as well as Amazon and other places. My knee pains were just below the kneecap and each side to some extent. Sometimes it transferred a little way down the outside of the knee.

went to a couple of pharcies in Singapore and unfortunately only 2 pharmacies sells Asta and that too is limited to one brand.
Looks like is not famous in Singapore here. And both are selling only the 4 mg dosage. I was thinking of getting the 8 or 12 mg dosage.
Anyway, can take 2 tablets a day!
Ok thanks for the tip guys, will see how it goes....

Looks like your pain is exactly the same spot as mine....mine is just below the knee cap and on that ligamen...
Dr gave me arcoxia for a few days, pain subsided, but came back the moment I stopped taking. Since then been taking ginger tea and doing light exercises, running 2 km (my usual is 10km) and completely stopped cycling, and once a week on court.
But the pain is still there, out of 1-10 and 10 being the worst....i am at around 3-4. Used to be 7-8.....i guess with the lowering of activities it helps, but I want to get it heal completely...
Let see if Asta will help...will monitor my progress.

Guys on 4 days of Asta, one pill a day at 6mg.
    Activity log
    Saturday 26th May - Ran 2km
Sunday 27 - wanted to run, unfortunately it was raining.
Monday 28 - Washed the car and was in town doing errands, spent half the day walking.
Tuesday 29 - Ran 9km in the morning, rest, gym, physio, evening - badminton, played for 3 hours and 8 games.

The Tuesday session felt good...the knees was holding up, normally, I won't be able to play 8 games afer a morning run...probably 3-5 but it felt good somehow...i think there is a slight imrprovements in my endurance and a reduction in the pain level.
Any way, will continue to take and rest the knee

    Planned activiities for the week.
    Wed 30 - rest
    Thursday 31 - 5km run
    Friday 1 - cycling 20km.
    Sat 2 - rest
    Sunday - 3 - 12km run.

Lets see how this pans out.

Btw, I noticed my heat rate have gone up.....my resting heart rate used to be 50-55....after taking the suppliments, it is now 60-70 bpm.
and my BP have dropped....used to be 140/150 over 90, it has now dropped to normal range...115/120 over 80...been monitoring it for the pass 2 days and am off BP medication since last week...

Glad you feel better, but to be honest, I don't think it should be working that fast though. Even supplements like Glucosamine needs several weeks to start feeling the effects. For me, I did not even remotely feel any different until after close to 2 months on this.

It could be my rest couple with the physio....i have been resting for a 5-6 weeks now....didn't push myself...hence maybe some muscle development....

Btw, is it normal for the heart rate to go up and BP to go down?

i was having some delayed muscle and joints pain. i played badminton on thursday night, and the pains only hit me on friday around 2pm. i was unable to bend or straighten my left leg. after further checking, i found some bruise on my left knee. then i remembered i was diving during my last session.

by friday 8pm, i barely could walk. and i remembered reading this thread. bought some astaxantin 4mg capcules, and ate 3 capsules (equivalent to 12mg) on saturday and another 3 capsules today. the only brand i could find is from bio-life here in malaysia.

after eating the pills for 2 days, plus with knee braces, the pain is 90% cured. i dont know whether its the pills or the rest i took or the knee brace. but it works.

    wow, 3 at one go!!!

    been taking 2 a day (6mg) since 26 May, hence it's been a week...
    1 June - Ran 5km
    2 June - cycled 10.5km
    3 June - ran 9.5km.
    4 June - rest
    5 June - badminton

Results - I actually felt slightly better - felt my recovery and reduction in muscle soreness
    but knee still hurts.

my rest heart rate is still slightly up from my normal rate - 60++ bpm..
My BP is within the normal range, as I have stop medication after taking this. - so monitoring and see if it helps.
Lost 1-1.3 kg in the last 2 weeks...target to lose 3-5kg b July.

    Let's see how it goes...

yeah. 3 x 4mg = 12mg. planning to do 12mg for the 1st 5 days until the pain totally subsides. then will drop it to 4mg a day.

    make sense, mine is 6mg...so x 2 = 12 mg as well...
Same feeling as you ....i felt the initial stage was good, maybe is the initial impact pumping all the anti oxidents in and the body reaction...and now subsequently the body adjusting, the improvements might need a longer stage now to jump to the next level....

just my 2 cents....too early to say....into my 2nd week...
i'll be rally happy if my knee tendinitis pain reduces..

    Into my 3rd week....
notable improvement in my endurance....could run and run.
running at a certain angle or style, the knee pain is not felt. But I know the pain is still there when I jump and land.

other than this, felt better in terms of muscle recovery,
    15 June - Ran 9km
    16 June - rest
17 June - ran 8km in the morning and 2 hr badminton session.
Normally I don't play badminton after my morning run...previously tried, and my legs all wobbly...but I felt good even after the run and after the badminton session, legs were ok, and no muscle soreness.
18 June - Rest (I thot my legs will be dead, but surprisingly, NO muscle soreness at all)
19 June - Badminton again for 3 hrs, think I am ready.

overall after 3rd week at 12 mg per day - better endurance, recovery...but knee pain is still there...
i wouldn't rate it better, but is still there...
