Hi all am new here, but have spent quite a lot time going through posts on this board. With all the praise for the 88s 3u, I decided to give it a go, and have ordered from HK, as it looks like only 4u is available in the UK. I currently alternate between a 4u astrox 77 and Li-Ning N9II, although I'm still getting used to the n9ii (Some timing issues with certain shots, eg backhand). With the n9ii all I seem to want to do is smash, due to how powerful it is, although I don't have the same confidence with it when I'm at the net as I do with the astrox 77 when playing tight net shots. I'm sure this is just something to get used to, but I feel a stiffer shaft would allow me to play better when close to net.The astrox 77 took no time at all to get used to, felt like I'd been playing with it for quite some time...similar to my BS12 3u. However it takes a fair bit of effort to get in a decent smash with it with plastics (at least in my case, but less effort than the bs12). I'm hoping the astrox 88s 3u is "the one". At the very least I want to have 1 go-to racket for plastics, and another for feather (strung 1-2 lbs higher), as am finding it hard for 1 racket to meet my criteria for both types of shuttles. We shall see
I'm currently living in France and there are only 3U versions of badminton rackets, I personally have a 3U 88d that I will test next week (coming from 4U JS10..). Check out badmania.fr and plusdebad.com
3U Astox 88S or 4U Astrox 88D, which you guys recommend? As where I live in Hungary both versions are available.
first it depends on your playing style. How long do you play per session? You give it all out in 3 games then go home or stick around as long as you could. If you are a front court player using even balance or all rounder racket before, I think you should get the 88s. 4U if you are just a club member who love to play as much as you could. On the other hand, if you are the smasher and love the z force, go for the 88D. 3u might be a little heavy, but who knows.
Dry swing, i don't think both astrox 88 very head heavy, when i compare both 4U AX88D & S with Arcsaber 11 in the shop, i feel they almost the same, with Arcsaber 11 heavier (overall) a little because 3U. AX88 3U not available in my country..
Tbh dry swing gave me very difference feeling when it has been strung. At first, I dry swang all of them and felt that they were too heavy without head heavy. After I strung it, the 88s 4u is super light. I dont know why tho.
It could've been just your arm muscles adjusting /getting used to the racket. Sent from my SM-J320F using Tapatalk
I'm not sure on the official ratings of these rackets in terms of BP, but a google search results in quite different infos from at least 3 sources; badminton bay, badminton alley and MBS. 88S 88D Both but no specifics if for 3U or 4U. Items are no longer in MBS. But somehow you'll get the idea that they are around those ranges of head heaviness.
You can get a rough idea... BP ... for 3UG4 88S : 303mm,87.08g(Plastic covering grip removed, no strings); : 300mm+, 95.22g(Grip and Yonex 80P strings added). 88D : 306mm,87.73g(Plastic covering grip removed, no strings); : 303mm+,96.04g(Grip and Yonex 80P strings added).
Researched on a Chinese forum: 88S : 300mm,81.5g (Swing Heavy = 84) 88D : 308mm,84g (Swing Heavy = 86.5)
Hey! Thanks ... I assume these BPs are for 4U models. Can you pull out for 3U as well for both (88 S & D), as this will give a fair comparison from the same forum.
Hi, can you please indicate which Chinese forum? I've seen it before but have forgotten and wanted to visit it. Tks! Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
Sure, but those are from different posts though.. 3U http://bbs.badmintoncn.com/thread-867347-1-1.html 88S : 303mm,87.08g(Plastic covering grip removed, no strings); : 300mm+, 95.22g(Grip and Yonex 80P strings added). 88D : 306mm,87.73g(Plastic covering grip removed, no strings); : 303mm+,96.04g(Grip and Yonex 80P strings added). 4U http://bbs.badmintoncn.com/thread-877342-1-1.html 88S : 300mm,81.5g (Swing Heavy = 84) 88D : 308mm,84g (Swing Heavy = 86.5) Quoted above =)
Quoting from Visor's post in this thread (Page 11): "More swing weight measurements from Racquet Force FB page: The new Astrox 88D & 88S 3U are generating more 89.5kg and 89kg respectively which score relatively high. For 88D & 88S 4U are generating 86kg and 85kg which is acceptable."
