It's not hype just excitement for the future. Lin Dan and Lakshya Sen are at 2 ends of a spectrum. LIn Dan the greatest singles player is nearing the end of his career in a few years. Lakshya Sen an upcoming youngster is just starting his senior career. Lakshya has a long way to go as he makes the transition from junior to senior circuit. Lakshya needs to build muscles, endurance, and experience on the circuit. I hope its not necessary to crush the hopes of a young player as he makes mistakes.
That's what people do nowadays. A person can't show his talent to the world, so many are there in this world to belittle him. You can read the posts above. You can easily find out some of those people here.
Ah, I wouldn't say that. Michelle Li, for example, showed her talent today and I've yet to see anyone belittle her.
There is no Sindhu, Sikki Reddy, Aswini ponnappa etc. How come you expect them to win a tie ?,. Sindhu will also play doubles if needed. She is a good doubles player as well. Nothing unexpected .
This 15 year old girl Vaishnavi is getting schooled by Canadian player. She is in the place of Sindhu. Hope she learns a thing or two from here.
She is one of the most improved player and showing with winning results and not a fluke. Also, to come from a non-badminton powerhouse, she deserved all the credit.
i agreed. As a french, I 'm happy to see Popov win, but he is only 16 years old, and Popov, even if it's still only europe, is continental junior champion... Sen will beat him in 3 years. But the younger Popov is better Anyway, great victory, while everone saw China and India (even with injuries...) qualifying quite easily. Gade contract has ended after european championship, if I am not mistaken. He would have been there. Anyway, first surprise in the thomas cup.
Then why send SN? I read that she was sent to improve her ranking. But how will she do that when India won't win a single tie in the group.
I could only access Ukraine from Germany I used to do geoblocking VPN but this time doesn't work for badminton world.tv
Peter Gade made quite a difference to Lucas Corvee's footwork (& hence rallying skills) during his outing in the last Thomas Cup, but I think the tactics given to Lucas made more of a difference this time Anyway, Peter Gade was signed up with the goal to develop the FRA juniors, rather than win anything -- and I think he like the idea of working with juniors well enough to open his own badminton school in Denmark.
I do not think any of us can crushed the hope of the young player just by commenting on a forum. If he is good, he will be good and the results will eventually show. Just by winning 1 set from Lin Dan and there is a big Hoo-Ha! Who is Lin Dan anyway? The one who can lose to anyone in the first round when he is not in the mood to play. I am not promoting this player because the father under-reported the age of his elder brother just to let him gained an advantage over younger players. As what I said, wait until his result show and people will start talking, don't go too hype just because it is your follow countryman. The only young player that I ever go Hoo-Ha over was Taufik Hidayat.
Imho, taking one game off the 'aged' Lin Dan is nothing to shout about nowadays, given that he's lost like how many times to how many players this couple of years (to me, it's how you beat him or how he played that matters more). I wonder if most of you even know or remember that in China there was once a young 16-year-old Guo Xinwa who actually stunned Lin Dan at the last China National Games 2017 team event and the youngster was humble (and realistic) enough to admit he was lucky that Lin Dan played badly in that match. And where is this teenager now ? He's playing doubles, MD and XD, switched as his coaches felt he's more suited for doubles than singles !?
