The only reason Qiao Bin is even here (& in the Thomas Cup selection) is because the other CHN MS in his generation (Tian Houwei, Wang Zhengming) have already given up on CHN's national team -- he never had the skills/consistency of a top 10 player (top 20/15 at the most), just the physicality. The 21-17/21-16 score is misleading -- LCW did not really bother to accelerate in either game until around 14/15-14/15; then he more or less pulled away... But I do think LCW is playing more "clever" these days (ever since Commonwealth Games 2018) -- so I wonder if he's ever going to pull out that 400km/h smash again?

It's just a meme based on the western propaganda that CHN's president is an emperor who can do whatever he wants -- but in this case, the propagandist didn't get his facts/research right, because the current CHN president is a soccer fan... Not only that, a NON-fan "technocrat" has been appointed as the head of the government sports council for badminton to root out cronyism in the sport and make it more professional/commercialized-- that was probably the only way Li Yongbo (whom everyone else must give "face" to) could be removed. IOW, CHN badminton fans are having a hissy fit because the CHN government has prioritize making the sport more self-sustaining/governing instead of getting more golds/champions. But honestly, just like in INA, badminton is popular enough in CHN that it doesn't actually need more government "promotion" -- the respective badminton associations just needs to work on their professional sports management skills (like BWF) in getting more media coverage, sponsorships, youth participation, etc.. CHN fans are only beginning to realize how badly the CBSL has been managed/organized as sponsorship deals fall through and a host of players like LD remain unpaid to this day. The CHN meme about disappointing performances or no-shows from LD and other national players is actually: "Looks like LD/ ABC is still upset about not getting paid?" or "Seems like the CBSL owed XYZ money as well?"
I think it's obvious that having actually won world/international titles, both Lin Dan and Okuhara only see regional competitions like the Asia Badminton Championships as practice/ramp-up for the Thomas/Uber Cup.... Axelsen, though, will probably try to test himself by going all the way in the European Championship -- because it's his first tournament coming back from his injury/operation.
