Team Malaysia just isn't that good. Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Taipei, Hongkong, India can all beat Malaysia on a good day.

Not sure about Korea, if SWH looses to LCW, game over.

con9lan7firm Malaysia would not qualify for the Thomas Cup Finals in Bangkok this year, just like Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup this year...

    are you sure?
I think MAS Men's Team still has a good rank
If not by this BATC, can't they qualify by team's ranking?

unless LCW not taking part for the Thomas Cup Finals, then totally no chance at all to qualify...

Yup, KOR becames weak team after their men's doubles golden era but they often produce surprise stuff when playing team event.

Today's first session preliminary round matches are already over. Top contenders have no much trouble to knock out minnow teams.

Group A, China fields lesser-known youngster Lu Guangzu as third singles instead of Zhao Junpeng who most likely will play tomorrow against tricky test, HKG to seek group winner position. Lu Guangzu is bronze medalist of 2017 China National Games, defeated Chen Long en route to semifinal and beat Zhao JP in bronze medal match.

The front-runner in women's team competition, Japan reserves Akane Yamaguchi. The reigning World Champion Nozomi Okuhara plays leading role to down HKG number one, Cheung Ngan Yi with close second game, 21-14 / 21-19. Then the scenario is going smoothly for top-seed Japan. Defending champion China and another strong team Korea blanked 5-0 over Singapore and Maldives respectively.

Lee CW role is similar with Lin Dan, China still needs him desperately in team event. The nervous Chen Long failed to carry on the heavy burden as first singles, Thomas Cup 2014 (semifinal) & 2016 (quarterfinal) and Incheon Asian Games Final 2014.

I hope so. Thailand isn't that weak, in fact they are really solid.

Luckily for India, their MS depth is very strong. It's their MD that they need to work on.

If the Korean national team and the MD players that left the national team to go independent resolve their differences, Korea could put together one of the strongest men's team out there. Some of the top MD players in the world are still Korean, as seen in the India Premier Badminton League.

Because of politics, Korea's current MD on the national team are mediocre right now. All they need to do is resolve the differences with their independent MD players and they are a threat to win the Thomas Cup again.
