Congrats Intanton. You both deserve the title but unfortunately there has to be one winner. I love these two girls, good skill with a very good attitude.
It's such a protracted struggle, a long grueling match, I won't begrudge the players taking a bit longer to get ready. I'm sure the umpire knows when to step in, if I'm not wrong, towards the end of G3, IR was verbally warned for stalling once.
You don’t see TTY slaughtering birds by the dozen or calling for a mopper every second point. The fact that RI resorts to such petty measures only taints what could otherwise have been a clean win.
Incidentally, if we compare with professional tennis at the Grand Slam level, the time between serves has been increased to 25 seconds at Grand Slam events from 2018, and is expected to be monitored more strictly via a shot clock. https://tennismash.com/2017/11/22/grand-slam-board-approves-rule-changes/
I understand and get your point, but there is the umpire to take care of matters on court according to the rule book and his better judgement based on the circumstances as he deems fit, so I'll leave it at that.
I mean there is a good reason why rules are changed. Besides, good or bad sportsmanship is seldom clear-cut but often subjective since the umpire is supposed to be professional and impartial in his duties, and as long as there is no clear violation of the rules.
RI's stamina has improved. Two challenges per game per player certainly help her cause. We now have on average more than 5 to 6 challenges per game!
And I suppose it’s ok to call in sick when you actually aren’t...as long as you don’t get fired? It would be nice if badminton didn’t degenerate into a race to the bottom of milking the rules to win at whatever cost.
Bad Sportmanship? She did not intend to delay the game (which many athletes use this tactic when they lose consecutive points) but that is the pace of the game she want in each and every point. I don't see how can this issue turn this clean win to another.
For an employee, how to call in sick without a medical certificate ? Not to mention there can be other reasons why you report sick such as personal issues. I suddenly recall Morten Frost more than once suggesting that a player do whatever that's within the rules to break the opponent's rhythm or take a breather if you're tired, and that seems to be the case with IR. To be fair, I don't find IR's on-court behaviour anything that is flagrant or egregious or that the umpire has not already dealt with appropriately. I don't suppose TTY has anything against IR in that regard too. And I do certainly agree with your last statement, just that things have not fallen to anywhere to the certain you feared. To be frank, I think highly of both IR and TTY, only have a slight preference for the former if I have to choose between the two ladies.
