Gayatri Gopichand is not worried by the defeats and also has a knee injury. She understands that ups and downs are part of the learning process. She remains positive and determined. I don't expect her to win a medal at WJC but she is going to become a really good player over the next 3 years. It is also confirmed that Malvika Bansod a singles specialist will be sacrificed in doubles at WJC. Link: http://badmintonasia.org/updates/news/two-defeats-in-a-day-has-made-india-s-gayatri-stronger India's Gayatri Gopichand Pullela is not losing any sleep over her first round defeats in the on-going Badminton Asia Under 17 & Under-15 Junior Championships in Yangon, Myanmar on Wednesday. The 14-year-old daughter of former Indian great P. Gopichand - competing in both categories - lost to 22-24, 21-14, 15-21 to Indonesia's Stephani Widjaja in the Under-15 women's singles. Hours later Gayatri was back court at the Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium - this time for her Under-17 singles match and it was another Indonesia opponent Yasnita Enggira Setiawan who put an end to the Indian's challenge with a 22-20, 18-21, 21-13 win. "The two defeats are not going to affect me. In fact the defeats have made me stronger. The message is strong that it is a long winding road for my badminton career. There is a lot of hard work that needs to be done," said Gayatri, who next heads to Jogjakarta for the World Junior Championships. The Asian Under-17 & Under-15 championships is Gayatri's second. Despite her early exit in Yangon, Gayatri is still one of India's hope in Jogjakarta. It was later revealed that Gayatri carried a right knee injury which also affected her performance in Yangon. That, however, is no excuse for her defeats. "Yes, I am injured but it is not the excuse for my two defeats. I am more than pleased with my overall performance. It was close in both matches." India's national juniors head coach Sanjay Mishra is also counting on Mishra to bounce back at the world junior meet. "She (Gayatri) played well in Yangon. She is also a key player for us in the world junior meet in Indonesia," said Mishra. Four of the Indian girls competing in the Asian meet will head to the world junior. Apart from Gayatri is World Junior No 9 Aakarshi Kashyap, Malvika Bansod and Ritika Thakker. Gayatri and Aakarshi will play in the singles while Malvika and Ritika will play in the doubles with different partners.
Here you go. As i expected, Gayathri combo lost in doubles as well. Considering it is their first round (though it is second round since they got walkover in the first round). What BAI is going to say about this?. Curse of other players who ask for fairness in selection played a part !. Hope for a good fair selection Process.

BAI doesn't have to say anything about the selection of gayatri in U-15, U-17 events. She won 3 back to back U-17 ranking tournaments(defeating U-19 winners like malvika, aakarshi), gayatri/samiya also won U-17 doubles ranking tournament. There is no bias in her selection in those events. She is among the best in U-17 events. Yes, the important question to be asked is the basis of her selection for U-19, selectors can't just say that she has defeated malvika & aakarshi who won U-19 events. Selectors have to be blamed for her selection in U-19 for sure.
People like us don't care what is she all about. Does she have Ranking in U-19? . She is the daughter of Indian badminton Head coach and she is U-15 player. She did not play even a single U-19 tournament and she is not poor either (according to your previous argument) As i said , she is not of that standard. Vaishnavi went out of Gopichand academy and suddenly she was separated from Gayathri in doubles and paired up with another player. And we know all the funding reaches Gopichand academy. As you said, Vaishnavi is from well to do family, what is that going to do here?. If you ask me, Gayathri is much more wealthier than Vaishnavi. Vaishnavi is World no.10 in U-19 ranking. How come she be selected for doubles?. How hypocrite, cruel and immoral in the selection of players. Only those who does not care about indian badminton will not ask any queries and shake their heads to whatever they say. Gayathri's loss in doubles as well 'Made my day'. Cheers.
Only time will tell who is good or bad, I don't want to be judge on that at this age. After vaishnavi left the academy gayatri paired up with samiya to play in indian tournaments & they were practicing together as vaishnavi went to thailand and vaishnavi can't come to practise with gayatri right. yes, selection of gayatri (U-17) in U-19 is not that justifiable, i said it before too. The worst selectors did was by selecting vaishnavi in doubles, that is really questionable. My main point is that if vaishnavi played Indian tournaments there would have been no issues, how did aakrshi, purva barve got selected ? they played ranking tournaments, they won. Example Ira was in AJC but not in WJC, the simple reason is that Ira didn't perform in ranking tournaments ment for selection. yes gayatri's parents are rich but they didn't send their kid to play all over the europe & africa to earn points, only tournament they sent was Indonesia I think, where the whole academy youngsters went. vaishnavi don't want to waste time playing ranking tournaments, instead play all over the world to get a good seeding to play in WJC, that is really good, I really felt bad that she was not selected as she was focused solely to participate in WJC. Now this idea to collect more and more points have caused a injury too, even if she was selected she can't play. From now on I think vaishnavi should at least play 2 ranking tournaments & show that she is the best, which she is. If she doesn't play any ranking tournament there is a high chance that selectors will not even consider her to select just because of this stupid reason. Yaa one more point out of the discussion, you were asking why kiran george is not selected ? Just tell me a name whom you will replace him with the present members. All the U-19 MS are Vimal's student and Vimal is in the selection committee so he knows better then us I guess.
I doubt she is fully recovered, Vaishnavi is risking further injury and fatigue. I hope she doesn't have to learn the hard way. 16 Tournaments is enough in a year. Rest, train and more rest should be her prescription!
