Hey, recently I have been playing more mixed doubles as well as men's doubles and I have a questions about where to move after my partner plays a weak drop shot while I am at the front. This happens more so in mixed doubles, when she plays a weak drop and the opponent rushes forwards to attack do I move back across to defend or let my partner cover? Thanks.
Agree: turn away from the net so you don't get hit! Not a lot you can do about this situation - moving backwards is not appropriate, and moving forwards more is suicide.
Yeah, it's absolutely not worth it, racket to the face and turn away. Maybe you'll get lucky. I've heard of people being hit in the eye with a shuttle, it's not nice.
IMO there must be went something wrong a few hits before. I mean, a XD female, playing a weak drop shot from the back sounds like you have had to rotate earlier and she or you had to create the situation for rotation. No offence, but once you get into the situation to play a weak shots, you had to neutralize pressure earlier. If you don't have the option to play more than a weak drop shot you are checkmate, mistakes had been made 3-5 shots earlier. You can have luck and can return the kill, or the kill goes into the net or out, but you can't do anything with a winning tactic. I would move away from the net. Have you got a kill in the eye or on the nose? Not the best feeling in the world.
You see your opponent rushing for a net kill, turn away if too close to the net. If closer to mid court, few quick steps to the baseline. That cork can do some nasty damage if you are not careful enough.
