Exactly this!!! Well spotted. It's easy to say Chen Long played bad, after seeing this match, but that surely was because of the efforts from VA. Both VA and Kenneth Jonassen emphasized these exact points in the post match interviews. Tactical dicipline/patience. And reading the opponent. VA said the video analysis and video training improved his defense and ability to read CL. They had prepared for this match. Cheers, FB
Chocolate Size plywood and a large box of soft Kleenex, I'm ready for the finals and the following celebrations with tears of joy Ahsan-Saputro + Ahmad-Natsir and of course Viktor-y The Dragoon Master This is just going in one direction and that's uuuuuuppp.
Wow guys Viktor actually won.... I am speechless!!!!!! I must admit even though I support him didn't think he'd win today!! Lin Dan was on form yesterday so I thought nah Viktor probably gonna lose... But no! He won! Congratulations!!!!!!!! Consider me a lifetime fan and supporter from now on
Well deserved WC title, beating CL and LD in one tournament and keeping his nerves against LD in the final! Congrats!
Congrats to Viktor Axelsen. He has done something that Peter Gade hasn't done - win a WC. Viktor has a chance to eclipse Peter Gade's legacy if Viktor can continue to win big tournaments. Viktor kept his nerves today, something that he couldn't do in the Japan SS final when he lost to LD, something that he couldn't do even when he beat Tian Houwei in the Dubai SS finals. When I look back at the Dubai SS finals, I remember Viktor was so nervous. Fortunately for Viktor, Tian Houwei was equally nervous that day so Viktor got away with the Dubai SS final win. But then Viktor showed composure in his India SS win. I was wondering if Viktor could maintain nerves today and he did. If Viktor can remain cool and calm, he is a force to be reckoned with. Viktor's defense has improved immensely from 3 years ago. Also, Viktor's smash accuracy has also increased. I remember in close matches, Viktor would smash the shuttle out. But today against LD, when LD was making a comeback in the second set, Viktor delivered accurate smashes to keep the gap in points between himself and LD. Viktor is a much more consistent player than he was 3 years ago. Overall today and yesterday, Viktor had very accurate smashes. He played an excellent semi-finals against Chen Long, and then repeated it today with LD. In a round about way, Viktor's improvement is good for Anders Antonsen. Anders Antonsen gets to train with the WC and currently, the best MS player in the world. I can see Anders Atonsen becoming a threat in the future, if he sets a goal on being better than Viktor Axelsen.
Woohoooooo!!! He's done it!!! Biggest congratulations for a prefect tournament week and the perfect display of attractive badminton. He has made it to the top! I was only following the match via live-score so I hope that Badmintalk will load up the cut version asap!
Continue the dream by winning more majors and PSS/SS titles VA! Have a great career performance in addition to getting more career titles. Then, you will become the top MS player of your era and book a place in badminton history. Congratulations!!
Over the past 2 years, Viktor has gotten stronger physically and skill wise. The only thing holding him back past year was his mental weakness which he has now shown that he has overcome. He and Momota will be the 2 favourites come Tokyo 2020.
You people are crazy. Momota is good but there are so many good players who can play better than him. It's very difficult for him now to come back to win SS titles let alone big tournaments. He need to tackle all the players here. That is extremely difficult. Sent from my SM-G600FY using Tapatalk
VIKTOR AXELSEN has joined the Illustrious company of Taufik Hidayat, Hendrawan, Heryanto Arbi, Xia Xuanze, Peter Rasmussen, Zhao Jianhua, Joko Suprianto, Sun Jun, Rudy Hartono and Flemming Delfs as the ONE TIME World Champion! Yeah, He is our World Champion! aka <<THE BEST IN THE WORLD>>
If that combination made me smash like Viktor in the past few days, I would be all in! Oh wait... first I needed to grow another 20 cm and learn to jump another 60(?) cm to make the shuttle land around the service line. Bloody hell, the angle and pinpoint accuracy of his "80%-smashes" were just insane. But clearly you will see a lot of happy faces and high fives in the Yonex marketing and sales team these days.
