It's great that India can win team matches even without Saina Nehwal and Jwala Gutta. It would have been hard to believe a few years back.

Fitriani should be trained in the mold of the shorter players like Akane Yamaguchi and Noizumi Okuhara (or even Lee Chong Wei, if you want to use an MS example)-- need exceptional agility, accuracy and awareness... you will always have trouble against certain kinds of players/ play-style, but you can still be very competitive... at present, she's playing like a shorter version of Wang Yihan (strong on rallying & smashes, not so strong on footwork & shot selection)-- not sure if it will work out for her in the long run?

But now that you've brought up the question of elimination, does anyone know what are the specific INA team goals for Sudirman Cup tournament? Medalling? Giving the youngsters exposure? Warm up for World Championship?

SUPPOSED INA can win over DEN 4-1 (a mission nearly impossible)... then the tie will further go down to the number of sets win/loss among INA, IND, DEN. IF INA win 3-2 still DEN will top the group and IND RU.

What's left for INA team is just wishes, expectation... but basically the chance to next stage already evaporated by losing 1-4 to IND.

It was looking at 3 possible loss scenarios.
INA would need to beat DEN 4-1 or 5-0 Then the win by games, points are calculated. It is complicated.

I don't want to rub this in face of Indonesian fans, because I am not up to date on the INA team selection and preparation-- but IND knocking INA out in the group stages in a mixed team championship like the Sudirman Cup would feel like IND arriving and INA leaving the circle of badminton "powerhouse nations"... were Liliyana Natsir and Hendra Setiawan the last of the "old guards"?

Of course, GER knocked MAS out in the group stages 4 years in what is arguably a fluke or one-off event; so I hope you didn't jinx it by calling BAI's years of effort a "fairy tale win"...8^P

BAI decision to bring Taufik's coach, Mulyo Handoyo to India paid off. Their MS will grow stronger and stronger.

Poor performance from indonesia. one off event or not it doesnt matter.

Someone gotta take the blame and scapegoat for this debacle whether its gloria or della or rosyita or the mix double coach in the magnitude of how du pengyu was scapegoated during CHN thomas cup defeat in 2015. Someone has got to go in pelatnas, never to play again.

Let's not forget BAI hiring Malaysian Doubles Coach Tan Kim Her. He is working hard on building Indian Doubles teams. We will see the fruit of this decision in the coming years. Doubles still has a lot of work to do. Wins like these are a bonus. :)

I don't think that will happen. They are really good at covering for each other.

To be fair this is not INA's strongest team.

On the other hand this must be one of INA's weakest teams, young, less experienced, but have time on their side. More like an exposure for the young players. Just like IND's young MD team in action today.

Talking about the changing of coaches, not only has India got two foreign coaches from MAS and INA and showing some result in this competition, Thailand too has the famous Rexy on its side. So future competition should be more interesting.

But all credit to IND for toppling mighty INA today.

Yes with natsir and maheswari the result today would not have happened.

Then again, if thats the case that they would lose anyway, i would rather they play apriani/rosyita or apriani/greysia. owiGlo is no matter a shocker. even if Praveen is sick , they should have gone with owiDebby. First match is really important when MS and WD is 40-60 or 50-50

    Only regret is left now.

Why is everyone mentioning Gloria here, if anybody watched it throughout or at least heard the commentary he/she would know Tontowi was under pressure and despite of being the most successful player on court was shaky and arguably under confident
Widjaja on the other hand though wasn't at par with AP did her job consistently if not outstanding.
Plus she often played creatively converting her desperate defense into counterattack. Many time she caught Satwik off guard. Although Towi succeeded in intercepting the close net blocks from the IND duo from the mid court in g2 the damage was already done.
And I need not mention what he did in GP of g1 and the MP too.
I guess he was lil frustrated, cause he isn't used to loose points when he was playing well, or maybe he just lacked concentration or focus towards the end.

Wiranto and Susi should pay for this failure.
Congratulation for Indian fans here. Your team, especially Ashwini, was playing great badminton. They deserve the win.

They need to win all events 5-0 to have a chance to advance and that is impossible.
