I doubt LYD is coming back. There's nothing there for him (unless he brings back some of the others too).
i doubt the retired players will come back except for ko sung hyun for the world champs.. but they have promising young MD players.. they just haven't invested in them enough until now. it'll take a while for them to rebuild the team again so i wouldn't be expecting results anytime soooon

I really wouldn't call their defence "solid" to be honest. Not yet anyway. It was nothing to write home about imo but what I liked about them was that they were less rigid in their attack which seems to buck the trend in Korean's MD. They didn't have the strongest smash but they were using it well. There isn't a lot in this pairing that made me think they were exceptional unlike some of their predecessors. But they are still young though, and have a lot to learn and develop.

As noted when the new roster was reported, Eom Hye Won was not selected. She did, however, try out both in May 2016 and in December 2016 (last 2 links in Korean). She played very well in domestic events last year but this week, she and the unknown Kim Min Kyung were top seeds at the summer championships and lost in the quarter-finals to Kim So Yeong and Lee So Hee. She was the top seed in mixed, too, but she and Chung Eui Seok - the oldest doubles player on the national team - lost to Chae Yoo Jung in their first match. Her team won the women's team title again, though. I think we can safely say this is not a post-Rio retirement and she will turn only 29 just after Tokyo. However, she'll have another chance to try out for the national team in December. My guess is that we'll find out then what decision she makes over the course of 2017.
The question is whether she's at the same level as the current team. Probably not. And if there're any spots left over, then I imagine it's for younger players.

I'm not sure that's true. The current ladies are so strong. I think she'll be relegated to the same role Kim SoYoung has been fulfilling; raising the potentially good players.

Although her smash is not her strongest, but when she was together with Jang Ye Na in WD, they were doing well. So I'm not sure the coaching team split them up. Then again, now Lee So Hee and Jang Ye Na are doing well, so who will be a good partner is unknown. Kim So Young has a fairly strong smash. Perhaps that would be a good partner for her in WD. There doesn't appear to be any suitable guys in XD for her.
Of course. I myself enjoyed the pairing of Eom and Jang very much in 2013. As for mixed. Yeah. None of the guys in the Korean team right now actually have the kind of smash to set up for her. Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
