Out of curiosity, can you guys post certain gestures that are sometimes (if not always) associated with a particular player? A few examples I can think of right now:

Chen Qingchen - Spirited celebrations after winning point
Ko Sung Hyun - Quick serving, sometimes without looking if opponent is ready to receive
Kamilla Rytter Juhl - Slight swinging/waving of racquet when receiving serve
Lin Dan - Tapping opponent's buttocks/backside with racquet after the match, when shaking hands
Carolina Marin - Screaming after winning point
Cai Yun - Removing shoes and putting them back on during intervals (wonder why he did this?)

So what was the deal with Sindhu's tying of laces?

And also, does anyone else catch Marin doing this murmuring/talking to herself while getting ready for a rally? Almost like Karl Malone before shooting free throws.

Good catch. Especially on the Saina one.

    • gabby adcock does a few quick steps to settle in just before chris serves
    • keigo sonoda is the twitchiest player
    • joachim fischer nielsen is the whiniest player
    • hendra setiawan is devoid of emotion
    • okuhara bowing to the court upon exit at interval and end of game. she is bowing to the sport, out of respect for the sport.
    • intanon's blessing hands to the service judge when receiving a new shuttlecock
    • mathias boe's twisting upper body during serve to change direction

I'd also add Boe/Mogensen's victory celebrations.

It's funny how the Japanese women have their own styles of bowing. Juniors like Hirota and partner do the full, graceful bow. Misaki and Ayaka must've thought they've outgrown it; they only do simple head swings now :D

I saw Saena Kawakami doing the bowing to all the line judges similarly to Okuhara. Did they have the same teacher?

Almost all the Japanese female players do the bowing thing before leaving the court at the breaks and some even before they enter the court, likely out of reverence for the sport or officials(?).

But I don't recall any of the Japanese male players doing the same?

But Okuhara and Saena are the only ones I know that bow to each official. And Okuhara is the only one to bow properly.

LYD doing the back and forth walk and finishing with a small "kick". In fact other Korean MD players seem to do this too.

LCW walking back abruptly away from the shuttle when he disagrees with a line call.

Liu YuChen's heel doesn't touch the ground when he walks.

Wei Nan's hilariously slow motion walk between rallies.

Saina Nehwal's intense look of concentration during a match, like she's about to kill you. Then off court she is a completely different character.

Ma Jin - Distinctive 'aaaaahhhhhh' after winning point
Wang Shixian - When in her serving stance, she gazes at her racquet (or right arm) before beginning the serve
Misaki Matsutomo - When in receiving stance, she spins her racquet once after putting her raised left hand down
Goh Liu Ying - Feet together when serving

LCW: at the beginning of a game, when the umpire announces love all, play... right at the instant the umpire says play, LCW serves without hesitation.

LYD shakes his racket right before he serves. Like he's relaxing and tensing his racket hand right before the serve.
