As always, zero prize money for such a team championships. That, to me, is the only drawback. If it is going to become an annual event, I'm afraid it will compete for attention and full attendance in an already crowded tournament schedule. How to attract a star-studded cast for this event may continue to be a problem,I'm afraid. For sure, the Olympics, the World Championships, The Asian Games, the Thomas and Uber Cups will be regarded in higher esteem and accorded higher status than the Asia Mixed Team Championships . The Badminton Asia organizer (formerly BAC) has to give it due consideration how to elevate its status or it may remain a second tier team event with most MAs choosing to send their B-Teams.
And your prediction is correct, it's 's too risky to field the inexperienced Jeon Hyeok Jin to play important and crucial tie if KOR trailed behind 0-2 and the nightmare happened, Jeon couldn't control the pressure against Kenta Nishimoto, the man who never beat him in three previous encounters of individual tournament but different case with team event when mental strength poses vital role. An anti-climax final when Japan won directly 3-0 over Korea, Sung Ji Hyun might had chance to extend the match longer if she didn't wasted huge leading in second game, 12-3 then ended with 23-21 for Akane Yamaguchi. Japan experienced rocky path to reach semifinal, they lost to the underdog Thailand 2-3 at group-stage and almost sent packing by Indonesia at last eight then they toppled two strong opponents in last two round to lift the trophy, credit to their fighting spirit, congratulations! However, this is only prelude for the World's mixed team event, Sudirman Cup, we'll see whether Japan can repeat their successful story in Gold Coast next May.
And Denmark, they still rely on the old guards who have rich experience to play in team event. Sudirman Cup 2017 will be interesting to follow, some undetected teams may spring surprise the pre-tournament favourites.
I should think so as it is a BWF-sanctioned event listed in the BWF calendar. I just realized the Asia Mixed is an alternate odd year event held in February of the corresponding year, eg 2017, 2019, 2021, etc. file:///D:/Documents/Badminton%20Draws%20and%20Entry%20Lists/robot-badminton-asia-mixed-team-championships-2017-tournaments-prospectus-updated-22nd-dec-2016.pdf
Thomas/Uber Cup are always held in even-numbered years, whilst Sudirman Cup is always on odd years. I have always thought this Asia Mixed Championship is a preliminary or qualification round for Sudirman. But someone said that may not be the case. I don't know.
Sorry to hear that. I was there as well, and was sad that Kim/Yoo lost the first match, and SJH couldn't convert her advantage to a winning in second game. I wish it could extend to 5 matches. It's rare for Viet Nam to hold such events with world class players and we would love to see more. A lot of us thought that if SWH was fielded then maybe the result may have changed. The whole Korean team seemed so sad and they left early and didn't take much photos with a long line of fans outside. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I kind of wish JHJ won against Kenta so that we could see the WD Takamatsu barely played in this tournament lol Glad that Japan won though. Although Sato is definitely not ready for WS2 position -Okuhara should be a safer bet.
Well I was very happy to see Jung Jae Sung after a long time but I was surprised to see him coach!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AFAIK, it's still in HCMC. If you were in Hanoi, then there is another tournament there, International Challenge, but they have plan to upgrade it to GP level.
Next tournament in Vietnam is vietnam international challenge which will be held in March in Hanoi Sent from my 1201 using Tapatalk
And, not surprisingly, Denmark won the EMTC on Sunday https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...862CB1-299E-4CCB-978F-62E4D66247D1&d=20170219 beating Russia who had put out England 3 - 1 in the SF. Congrats to the Japanese team - nice to see them win the AMTC. smautf
Well beating England was no accomplishment, other then the XD. There surprise combo did well to outclass the Adcocks. England looked pale shadow of themselves, they were really good in CWG and other editions of EMTC. The best part of the tourney was VA's disappointing loss and selection of Antonsen over the more lucrative Sr by the Danish coaches.
The best part was they did not even select Jorgensen to play at all, instead choosing Axelsen and Antonsen.
...indeed, and England had only just managed to scrape wins against Sweden and Netherlands earlier (3 - 2 each). Some might recall England hosting friendlies against Japan as recently as 2009: https://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/...ar=2009&month=9&newsprofilecode=#.WK4Z5JHfWhA ...difficult to imagine this happening at the moment. VA lost out to 21 year old Fabian Roth (GER), by the way. smautf
