Depends on the racket grip. If the original grip is G3, I use the original grip. If I can only get a G4, I add an additional grip to make the grip slightly bigger. Ron
this is gonna sound daft, but i'm gonna ask anyway. why do so many of you need a big grip? i don't believe you all have hands that big. i'm 6'3" and i'm quite comforable on one grip. and i don't have particulary small hands either. in fact by the general rule of thumb (grip should fit comfortablly inside the ring created by thumb and index finger) my grips fit. do extra grips not make ur racquets feel head light? do you lose a feel for the bevels on your grip, doesn't your net play suffer? all of these are problems i associate with borrowing somebody's racquet that has a big grip...
It's also about the feel of the grip as well as sweat absorption heh. Adding more grips sometimes produces a different feel in the ridges that you just wouldn't get if you used only 1 or the original grip.
i think its primarily trying to adjust a G5 or G4 grip, to something more comfortable. and from my experience, using a grip size that is slightly too big IS easier than using something too small. a too small of a grip will result in someone gripping too hard, potentially causing injuries, as well. sometimes its hard to find a racquet you like with the proper grip size. sanding down the wood is hard. adding grip is easier. so if the guy can only find G5 racquets (or perhaps, he was looking for a SP or JP coded yonex), which usually only come with G4/5, then he'll have to resort to using more grip to thicken it up to an acceptable thickness. and you also should remember, some under grips, such as the bk competition grip i use, are really thin, slightly thicker than thin overgrips. and some use an under grip for some trait it has (the ridges in my case), with the supergrap for it's feel.
Before on my Forza, I had the original grip, 2 overgrips and one replacement grip. Needless to say at the time, it felt great. It balanced out the racquet even more, which I loved and most importantly, it had felt great. Nothing suffered, if anything, my performance level went up. There was a lot of shock absorption, especially from the replacement grip. At the moment on my Yonex NSs, I just use one overgrip over the G4 grip + original grip. I guess the finger power concept has me going.
G5 original grip + 1 yonex or gosen towel grip and then it's rock and roll or lock and loll as they say here in tokyo
In UK, I think u only has G3? However, many other places, only G4 or G5 could be easily obtained. Therefore, the difference to begin with is already 1-2 layers of overgrip.
hmmmm - i'll have a look at this.. not sure what size my grip is. wow... i know people over here that have like 2 grips over the original.. absolutely huge... funy thing tho, i had coaching last night - and my coach is a lot smaller than me (he's only 5'2" or something) and he has an extra grip on his racquet making it quite thick. i asked him why - and he said that with only one grip on he always got blisters.. funny that - i really suffer from a callous at the bottom of my little finger on my racquet hand... maybe i should put and extra grip on.... hmmm...
Hahaha. Maybe that explains his nick . But seriously though... LB do you wrap the A440 supergrap twice??
I usually get raquets with G3 or G4 grips and then i put a towel grip on over top to make it thicker.
i have the original grip of G5 rackets removed and added a cheap soft tack pacifc over grip. some how i like the grip to be smaller.
