    Hi All,

I bought an pair of Yonex badminton shoe (forgot the model name) and it was great. But about 3 years ago I stopped playing badminton (and hence never wore the shoe since then) and just recently picked it up again. But the shoe became extremely slippery on court now. Has this happened to anyone and are there any solutions?

    Thanks

Rubber outsoles can harden or age due to ozone or heat damage if not stored properly.

Check online. Try cleaning with soap and water first, if that doesn't work, then acetone.

Same problem that I faced few years back. I wondered why. Then, I found that the rubber was 'dead' or harden. For my opinion, buy new ones. :D

No need to Buy anything new.
Rub them with something for a few minutes each againt any Matte Surface.
    It would work.
I am Indian so even of i leave them in My Garage Shed They Heat up.
So rubbing leads to sudden expansion and contraction makes them a bit Handy and Flexible again

I strongly do not recommend acetone as this will further dissolve the rubber in the sole. It will only briefly add traction.

keep in mind that there is dust sticking to the shoes as well, so wipe it with wet towel see if it works for you

i have several shoes to rotate and even if one pair dont get touch for a few weeks, they are slippery, let alone few years.

Always have to clean the outsoles before i swap to another pairs.

Exactly. Courts that aren't well maintained will definitely add to the slipperyness. Adding acetone or even coke as I've heard of people doing to gain traction is only briefly going to solve the problem. No more than a few minutes of grip. You can keep applying it but this is a hassle. There are solutions though. Chemical ingredients that are safe yet effective at increase traction and maintaining performance for a good amount of time before needing reapplication. I can provide more information if you'd like to email me.

...This is why I tend to go through shoes in 3-6 months...

Would love to try. But I just threw away my shoe having recently moved and did a massive de-cluttering. :(

It's just to remove the top layer of hardened rubber to expose softer parts. 100 grit (medium) should be fine.

o, btw, i think Mizuno Wave Fang Pro has the best grip...

generally speaking, IMHO Mizuno shoes also last longer than Yonex's.

I've just given my Li Ning Hero 2014 shoes a work over with sandpaper, some fresh insoles etc., been noticing my legs getting very sore recently, usually an issue with shock absorption or compensating for slipping.

If you've worn that a lot before, then likely the *mid* sole is gone, which you can't replace...

Well, my feet aren't flat, they're normal shaped, but I dislike the feeling of having something riding up in the arches of my feet and I need wide fit (4E) shoes. 3E in my size are too narrow.

I used to wear a pair of YOUNG badminton shoe and the outer layer its rubber wrapped and it break idk if it’s the air too dry or hot. Recently I bought a pair of 65z3 I don’t want it break again. How can I maintain it like new :)
