WS, Tai Tzu Ying (TPE) v Pusarla Venkatta Sindhu (IND) H-2-H stats : 4-3 / WR : 3 v 9 An interesting duel of two elite players will open Hong Kong finale today, the skillful Tai Tzu Ying demonstrated her true talent yesterday how she denied Carolina Marin defended her title here. Trailed behind 12-15, 2014 Dubai SS Finals champion minimized her errors to grabbed 7 consecutive points with delicate trick shots that trapped the Olympic Champion at front area. Her last hudle none but another heavyweight rival, Rio silver medalist who scores back to back final after topped podium last week in Fuzhou. The tall Indian showed steel determination at last eight tie to make great comeback then ended local hopeful Cheung Ngan Yi in two straight-games yesterday. Last meeting, Sindhu outplayed Tai TY in Rio OG last sixteen. Women's Singles rivalry becomes more interesting nowadays with so many bright talents emerge from different nations. XD, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir (INA) v Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto (INA) H-2-H stats : 3-0 / WR : 3 v 5 Indonesia once again rely to the senior players to clinch Superseries title as the young pair development in this category is still far from expectation to produce significant progress in top level tournament. Ahmad/Natsir prove their class and experience as one of high calibre mixed doubles combination to dictate home new pair despite Natsir injury condition. It's chance for Jordan/Susanto to end title drought after won prestigious All England crown this spring. The world number 5 battled hard and took revenge over Korean promising pair Choi SG/Chae YJ in close three games. MS, Sameer Verma (IND) v Angus Ng Ka Long (HKG) H-2-H : 2-0 / WR : 43 v 14 A new champion in Superseries tournament shines in Hong Kong Coliseum, the underdog Sameer Verma surprised hot favourite Jan O Jorgensen in semifinal with his accurate cross court drop-shots, good retrieving skill and never say die attitude. The Danish star failed to force rubber games despite led 20-17 as Verma bounced back and won the match, 24-22. It will be tough chance for home favourite Ng Ka Long who knocked out his veteran compatriot Hu Yun in final four against the on-fire Verma. One more fresh face fill the Superseries winner's list of 2016 edition in the most competitive discipline, started from Hans Kristian Vittinghus won AUS Open followed by Qiao Bin in KOR Open, Tanongsak bagged DEN Premier crown and Chinese promising star Shi Yuqi nailed French Open title. The shift of generation will coming soon! WD, Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen (DEN) v Huang Dongping/Li Yinhui (CHN) H-2-H : 0-1 / WR : 3 v 40 Juhl/Pedersen defied all China final as they outclassed Chinese new partnerships Bao YX/Yu XH who produced many uncharacteristic errors and failed to develop their game plan. Rio silver medalists gave the pressure since the beginning of match with their attacking style and interception. Danish vast experienced pair will see another China combination as last stumbling block, Huang DP/Li YH who knocked out them last week in Fuzhou. Huang/Li defeated their teammates Chen QC/Jia YF in semifinal and have second chance to clinch title here after swallowed disappointment in last week homeground Superseries. Both Huang/Li and Chen/Jia are projected as China leading ladies in the retirement of their predecessors post Rio OG. MD, Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN) v Takeshi Kamura/Seigo Sonoda (JPN) H-2-H : 3-1 / WR : 2 v 10 Unbeliavable run for Boe/Mogensen to enter final in last three Superseries since Paris meet. Danish finests are favoured to pocket second Superseries title in this year with their tactical play to overcome the aggressive and faster Kamura/Sonoda. The Japanese pair continued their winning record against Chai/Hong in three games yesterday while the Danes eliminated Indonesians Ahsan/Saputro. Boe/Mogensen are the only senior pair remains after their familiar foes called quit after Rio 2016, it's remarkable stamina for 36 years old Boe and 33 y.o. Mogensen who still fit and fresh to compete with younger generation.
Hi, did China not win a single title last Superseries? At their hometown too? And this Hong Kong China Superseries they may not win a single title again? Anyone can verify this?
didn't even smell any title let alone win it. Same will happen in neighbour country. Same will happen in Destination Dubai. The reason : 1) MD - GOAT Fu Haifeng has retired unfortunately and the Olympic conquering partnership is over.Others MD are just BANGG Average. 2) WS - The legendary flower trio has retired. Bingjiao has fitness issues regarding weight. 3)MS - Chen Long's catastrophic decline has begun. Other players are just flash in the pan. 4)WD - Decent players, not a threat to Japan or Denmark on any hour of the day. 5)XD - Legendary Nan Zhang can't do it alone with his 142 ranked partner. So be it.
So basically a lack of depth is the summary from China. Never saw that one coming. Thought was more of a Malaysian issue. I'm impressed by PVS though. I like her jump smashes. Think she's added that into her arsenal.
The two child prodigies have finally matured. Both ladies at least five years or more in the international circuit
