I guess I'm as tall as you are Well... Is the younger brats out there posting here in badmintoncentral? Afraid not :crying:
Neo: wow, I didn't know you were born in 1990. You are lucky to be playing Badminton at such a young age. Maybe I should send you one of my MP99s for you to test. Oh, I'm... ...Male ...34 years young ...5'11" (180cm) ...230lbs. (104kg) Going from American Football to Badminton was not easy. American Football is all about brute force while Badminton is all skill and speed. Badminton rules!
i bet u have a big smash and the racket feel like tissue paper to you what racket are you using these days?
Hi Cooler, my smash is getting better but my coach says I'm too big in the chest area , I need more flexibility which is what I have been working on. I really don't think physical, brute strength has much to do with the smash, it's all about technique, flexibility, explosive power (plyometrics), of course wrist power and most importantly timing, hitting the shuttle out in front, getting full extention. I've seen little guys, 5'5", 120lbs. soaking wet, absolutely kill the shuttle and I was thinking back then, "How come I can't do that? I'm three times stronger." Then my coach told me it's not about strength, it's about the things mentioned above. So, I've been working on those things and yes, I can almost kill it. Currently swinging MP99s with BG-85 @ 29lbs. but just picked up a few NanoSpeed 7000s and getting them strung today. The NS7000 feels very similar to my MP99 but has more feel, a bit more control and is more powerful. At least for me.
Yes, there are several younger brats out there I think. And yes, they are posting. Perhaps you don't notice. Tall.. and light. Wow. It's people like you that can cover the court well, and quick too. I've had many a tough match with girls who are tall, but light. The long legs can carry them anywhere.. and there's hardly any weight for those long legs to carry. Lol!
You don't really need to jump much in singles. If you're tall, as long as your coverage is good, you should be able to do well. Horizontal distance covered in strides is more important than verticals.
I agree, though the person might not be able to jump as high... As long as he can cover the court, it'll prevent him from losing a point
