Shin had a 4 month abscence in early 2015, and he returned with a very military-ish haircut. I don't think he was exempted
that period was from his nursing injury i presumed? he was injured if i am not remembering wrongly and he came bk with hair cut Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
He was exempted. But I think he had to do basic training only. I know for sure AG Gold gives exemption. As KSH was only into his first year of service when they won the team gold. With that he filed for immediate discharge.
YYS is continuing as XD player. where LYD would focus on domestic and other leagues where badminton is popular e.g. purple league or even the japan league games.so he is on a semi retire stage imo Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
I seriously doubt the first two will happen. Players can finish high school in 3 years despite training full time and competing overseas for 1 or 2 of those 3 years. Elite athletes are admitted to university based on athletic criteria, never on the basis of entrance exam scores like the rest of the country's students. Every player who plays for a university team graduates in exactly 4 years even if they are training full time with the national team and competing overseas 20 weeks per year. I've never heard of a badminton player with a field of study that wasn't sports related. The jump to a mainstream academic career like law or medical school would most likely rely on a player's intelligence, motivation, and commitment to post-retirement catch-up, and would have little relation to the studying required of players during their athletic careers.
his next career would defintely not leave the sport out. He started His own brand. Makes no sense to carve another career out when his popularity is able to get him opportunities in the branding Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
He could just open a gym or something, do no work and rake in the money, no? Like just be a head coach who doesn't need to teach everyday and more just correct his teachers who then teach the newbies?
I read somewhere it did exempt him from the 2 years military training but still have to do the compulsory 2 weeks military training.
I bet LYD definitely will be in many Korean variety shows then commercials and kdrama. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

The compulsory training that exempted players do is 4 weeks. The two years is now 21 months but you are basically correct. Lee Hyun Il was exempted from military training way back in 2002 when he won the Asian Games men's team gold. He did 4 weeks of basic training in 2004 and came back with a crew cut. When the MD medalled in Athens, they were already exempt because of earlier medals, gold in '98 for Kim Dong Moon, gold in 94 for Yoo Yong Sung, and the other two in Sydney. In 2008, only Hwang Ji Man and Lee Yong Dae benefitted. In 2012, Jung Jae Sung had already finished his military service. In 2010, Shin Baek Cheol was exempt. In Incheon, the men's team gold exempted Kim Ki Jung, Kim Sa Rang, Lee Dong Keun, and Jeon Hyeok Jin, and it got Ko Sung Hyun out a year early. Son Wan Ho and Yoo Yeon Seong were right at the end of their 21 months at the time. Shin Baek Cheol did his 4 weeks in 2015 and I believe Jeon Hyeok Jin did his this past summer. Lee Yong Dae is doing his four weeks in November.
That's hardly true. A few star athletes maybe. There were no TV appearances waiting for Jung Jae Sung, Bae Yeon Ju, or Lee Hyo Jung when they retired. Jung and Lee have been on TV only when Lee Yong Dae was on too. Shin Baek Cheol was on some dating game show a few years ago. A few of the biggest stars could do commentary but they'll still need a career outside of TV.
being a housewife maybe? saw her on cool kids show on badminton tho. still has her skills Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
