I think lack of smashing is partly explained by slow conditions that did benefit Chen Long and his excellent defence.

maybe we should blame VA for his poor game against CL yesterday.
and today VA deny LD a medal.

Chen Long's superb defense forced LCW to go for the lines in that last shot and it went wide as seen on the replay.

It is very unfortunate to be in your prime to be denied by first your long nemesis and buddy LD then the rising dragon CL.

feel sorry for LCW. but today, the stronger won. both in case of LD vs. VA, and LCW vs. CL.

Yeah, LCW was too passive. But I think he was too tired to play a more aggressive game.

Lcw was making errors at the net, smashing at the side when smashing at cl would yield better result. Must be hurting to be 3 time Olympic silver medalist

I don't think LCW could have done a whole lot more. I don't think he choked. When he attacked, CL kept on getting it back or even counter-attacked brilliantly. Whatever he did, CL had an answer. And I think deep down, LCW knew he couldn't keep up physically with CL, which made him a bit desperate and go for too much (hence the errors). I think there wasn't much he could do really. CL just too good and consistent today. And not to forget, CL had an easy semi while LCW had to fight hard yesterday. Very physically draining to keep smashing and your opponent is getting everything back with interest.

The way The Dragon plays in this Olympics, nobody can stop him, a well-deserved and most worthy champion.

Heartiest Congratulations to Chen Long and Wang Shixian !

    Congratulations to CL.

While most people were talking about LD and LCW, it turned out that the young ones were stronger, and Chen Long was the one to beat in Rio!

the rest of the other players will also feel unfortunate to be playing in this era of LD and LCW. they will complain that they seldom get a chance of playing in a final, nevermind finishing runner-up.

sit back and enjoy the terrific matches played by all.

    Felt sorry for LCW...

Is this the end of LD and LCW?

I think LCW can still go on but don't think LD can and should anymore.

LCWs shot quality was not the usual highest level, it was evident in his net play. Also couldn't get his attacking game going on probably after being through from the epic semi final. Congratulations to CL, great shot quality and and physical stamina.

In Semi, may be LD has done enough to take out the LCWs gold and LCW has done enough to take out LDs bronze !

Yeah, maybe, but he could at least have gone for it. Playing like this, he was going to lose inevitably.

But Chen Long did just fine, when he smashed...

I think KM has never beaten CL, he should start doing so (if he's coming back) if he want to shine when Oly is going to be done in his home country.

both LCW and LD spent most of their energy in the semi final. both are losers today. it's silly to play high level 3 games when you are 30 plus. so today is the result, the youngsters won.

I second this. All of the matches LCW won against CL saw him on all out attack mode but he employed the safe, slow, rallying game.
