i couldn't update here for the last few points as my fingers were shaking and heart pounding. what a well earned gold. despite down 16-18, they kept their pressure and composure. the MVP will have to be Misaki who was crucial to finishing up the last few rallies despite a bit shaky the few points before hand, but also not forget the power smash from Ayaka who seals the Gold.
But LXR is part of the so-called "newer" generation developed by LYB vs the older generation of LD, CY/FHF developed by coaches before LYB... LYB cannot let her go unless he is willing to let his own job go.
And indeed, that double touch fault would have given the japanese an extra point as well. After taking the shuttle off of the ground in another match, that seems like a lot of unsportmanship from the danes
Congratulations to the first badminton Olympic gold medal ever for Japan. While Japan won silver at the 2012 Olympics in Women's doubles, 2012 Women's doubles tournament at the Olympics was tainted because of the disqualification of the top women's doubles teams due to "badmintongate." The disqualification of those teams always left an asterisk on whether the medal winners were really best women's doubles teams at that time. But this time, all the best women's doubles teams were there. And Japan deserve this gold every bit. They played well, especially the last 5 points.
And they didn't get distracted by the mis-judgement of the umpire (& service judge)-- who didn't catch the double-hit by the Danes just moments ago (and gave the Danes the point)... True professionalism, fighting spirit and WORLD CLASS badminton!!!
I hope not.... She is one of the most exciting badminton players. I hope she recovers fast. Why is Olympics so cruel to some WSplayers. Sayaka Sato, Tee jing yi, Wang Xin and now Li Xuerui
Yes, the last five points were extraordinary. I couldn't believe how quickly the table was turned in a flash.
No regrets for the Danes, who performed the best I've ever seen them do-- minimal errors, lots of passion/diving, and great shot selection which troubled the Japanese at every turn... But the Japanese were better, so a well deserved gold medallist AND siliver medallist!!
HBJ has some interesting stuff. Sun Yu nah, the same old stuff has no competitive edge against other top players.
With LYB medal-only KPIs, they will be dropped as soon as he finds the next subservient medal-hopefuls... Too bad CHN cannot swallow their pride and import foreign coaches/talents, LOL
Good to see the Japanese and Danish fans in the spectator stands sitting or standing side by side without any problem. Can't imagine that happening in a soccer match between nations.
