Badminton had its debut at the 92 game and has been contested 6 times by 63 nations. Only 4 countries had won gold medals, China, S Korea, Indonesia and Denmark. With the weakening of the overall Chinese team, the chance is high for other nations adding their names to the list. The question is which country? Zhao yunlei is the only double gold medalist in one Olympic. Can she repeat? Lin Dan is the only one who won consecutive golds in MS. Can he 3peat? LCW is the only one who won consecutive silvers in 2 Olympic. Can he break the jinx and net Malaysia's first gold? LXR is the defending champion. Can she become the 2nd female winning consecutive golds following Zhang Ning's footsteps? Can RI bring Thailand's first gold? Can SN improve her bronze performance? Can the #1 seed Japanese WD fulfill their dream? Please share your thoughts.
Anything is possible esp when it involves human affairs which are most predictable, and you can't study it like a science, that's why many argue that economics and sociology are, strictly speaking, not science. Too many factors affecting the players performance, eg, off-form during the period, having a bad day, attack of nerves, injury, sickness, rising to the occasion, playing above oneself, too stressed out, wilting under the burden of the pressure of expectations, playing the match or tournament of one's life, peaking at the right time or declining at the wrong time, or any other unforeseen circumstances (Zika virus? insect bites) or personal matters (family problem, love relationship issues, business failure, lost heavily in the stock market, forgot to bring your favourite stuff, say talisman, or pillow so can't sleep well), and so on and so forth. In doubles, anything affecting one partner will affect the other. If not, under normal circumstances, usually the best players/pairs will go far and advance to the finals or at least the penultimate rounds. Often, you need a bit of luck, for want of a better explanation, to win tight matches.
My thoughts: Zhao yunlei is the only double gold medalist in one Olympic. Can she repeat? No Lin Dan is the only one who won consecutive golds in MS. Can he 3peat? No LCW is the only one who won consecutive silvers in 2 Olympic. Can he break the jinx and net Malaysia's first gold? Yes LXR is the defending champion. Can she become the 2nd female winning consecutive golds following Zhang Ning's footsteps? Yes Can RI bring Thailand's first gold? No Can SN improve her bronze performance? No Can the #1 seed Japanese WD fulfill their dream? Yes
ZYL, NO LD Lol only LD can answer LCW, No comments LXR, Yes (Idk why, but I am almost 100% sure for this one) JPN WD#1, (Dream? OG medal yes, OG gold no, it'll be China yet again my instincts say!) RI, No SN, (depends on draw, if no LXR n TTY enroute YES, otherwise NO)......... Plus, few ques from my side Can China maintain their XD dominance? Koreans look really bright as far as MD is concerned, can they add another Gold in Korean kitty? Who will be 4th player to join the Big3 in SF (MS)? Who is the biggest dark horse in WS? Which nation will get most medals after China (expected to top undoubtedly)? Which player YOU are expecting to ruin the seeded party? Do express your thoughts
XD and MD, 70% chances. 4the player? tell you when the draw is out. Dark horse for WS, who are your favorites? What happens if China only win 1 gold? Unseeded surprise? Won't happen in Single. Not too good in guessing doubles. .
VA will join the big 3. Final 8, Ms: LCW, CTC, LD, JOJ, TS, VA, NKL, CL. final 8. WS: CM, SJH, LXR, SN, NO, RI, TTY, WYH. Both champions would be coming from top half of the draw.
No one can predict both Korean MD are out, two Chinese MD teams remain. That's Olympic. It is sad that SN is out due to injury suffering in training. KS gives his fans reason to cheer. The thrilling MD match will be forever included in our badminton conversation. Every point counts, no lead is safe until the match is over. Olympic tests your will as well as your skill. Let see if LCW pass the test.
It is unthinkable that both Chinese XDs got knocked out. We'll it is Olympic, not a SS. Congratulations to Malaysia and Indonesia. LCW will feed on the success of his teammates. PVS and SK exceed expectation, no one should discount their chances. Results so far not favorite the top seeds. LD and LCW should not over look their next opponents. Woman single is the hardest to predict. More exciting badminton to follow. Enjoy.
