I think Copenhagen masters is strange, I know it is just for fun but it feels like they only invite players they think they can beat
CPH MASTERS The prize money probably to low, you won't get many Asian top players out of their warm nest for a longer travel to the North in December between Christmas and New Year, not with that prospect of profit>>> If it isn't for practice, holiday or great sportsmanship The Nationalistic point could be true, in the perspective of, it's always fine to see a countryman do it well, and promote the sport in his homeland and hopefully make it grow, which right now, seems to be an important Task For many of the old badminton countries. The last 6-7 years they haven't Broadcast much Badminton on DK National Channels and when they do Broadcast, it's often limited to a few tournaments- matches,, so the concern isn't in my point of view, about who will win,, is it a Chinese a Spain or Indonesian, it doesn't really matter, Badminton do have the Thomas Cup for that sort of fans In Europe we need some dusting, to get passion and emotions into the sport again. The fresh air I feel coming with Carolina Marin is releasing, if I walked passed her on street I would actually recognize her, she have some character & personality, something the TV stations demands. I love to follow Viktor Axelsen and I know many in especially Europe respect him for being a fantastic player and also a sensitive person with no guarantees, he can snap or do the unthinkable, he isn't one of the regular programmed players, with VA there is a Visible mind-battle going up and down. Some will call it signs of weakness, For me as a Media-Person it's an attraction ,,, The future looks bright with KM-VA and many other fantastic upcoming stars
I predict that Viktor Axelsen will soon be Denmarks number 1 ranked MS player, he is now wr 6 and Jorgensen wr 3. Axelsen has 71219 Points and Jorgensen 75967 Points. And if Jorgensen can not defend Points by winning German open and be runner up at all England I Think there will be a change of throne in Danish badminton. I also Think that Axelsen is already a stronger player than Jorgensen and more players probably fear playing Axelsen.
Ok it looks like I was right, Axelsen is WR5 now and Jorgensen WR6. However Axelsen will lose Points I suppose from not playing Swiss GPG where he finished 2nd last year. He was never entered for that tournament.
Can't believe he has lost another SS final... wonder how many more shots he will need until he will finally nail it. But congrats to KM whose speed on court an shot precision is just insane.
From the MS match that I watched just now it is very obvious that Victor has really improved a lot. His mental strength is getting better. He is not sp easily angry or frustrated now. I guess his coach did a good job. He is a calmer player now. No matter how I still believe that this player will be a very successful MS player in the future.
His skills, drop shot, net play, smash have all improved. He even varied his techniques and style of play. This I give credit to his coach for doing such a good job.
There is no doubt that he has improved a lot in the last 15 months. Still he is missing that killer instinct yet to bring on his best game available in a final. Today it was just so obvious how much he was focused on staying calm and controlled and thus not being able to unleash his absolute best. You can't win a match like this with a controlled and calm 90% game. It is highly dangerous for a player's motivation and psyche to always lose the last big match in the end. He will have to break this spell the sooner the better, or else he might end up as the super-talented #2. And that's a thing I really hope not to happen
Yes I have to admit that it has always been sad to see him not winning in the finals. But then kudos to his never giving up fighting spirit.
You could say that 3 of his future biggest rivals have been disbanded, Momota and Nishimoto by casino and Xue Song by injury. Unknown when anyone of them will return.
I would agree with Xue Song, but not Nishimoto, he is still far behind the other three. Beside Xue & Nishimoto do not meet Axelsen that often, not as often as Momota.
First of all, congrats to Viktor for crowning himself as European Champion 2016 with an awesome performance against JOJ in the final! That match clearly showed who currently is the #1 in danish MS. As kind of a bonus, here's a rally from his semi final against Marc Zwiebler which ends with I think one of the most shocking backhand kills ever: Marc's reaction is fantastic. He looks as if he just got hit by a truck.
I am watching the match now. VA was really good, but on one hand, JOJ wasn't at his best. He made too many unforced errors. And his backhand smash at high angle is kind of his signature right now. I have seen it on a few occasions, and it really brings a surprise factor to any opponents.
He's going to have to be cool under extreme pressure like that which I don't think he possess at his young age. Too easily, he's shown his lack of experience on court.
Yep, agreed. My money would've been on Momota as the fourth as he's the epitome of cool as a cucumber especially for his young age... but now that he's banned for at least a year...
