If its' right that Tago injured his back before/during his match it would excuse a lot. I've done mine - its painful and its debilitating and even when you try and play through it your body just won't cooperate. It even affects footwork. I've been in matches with mine and got to the point where i realised 'its just not going to happen today'.

Hopefully we'll see good things from him again. Talent's always been there and with his style he could go for a couple of years. He does have a bit of a wierd temperament though. Still he's had an excellent career.

I'm just curious as to why he even bothers to play at all. He should rest and heal up before playing. He will never become what he used to be if he keeps this up.

    That's a pity. He's such a talented player.

think it's because Tago is finding it hard to keep his staying power with younger players like momota winning tournaments so he is taking the easy way out.

It's on YouTube, not hard to find (search for Kenichi Tago, purple league) - but the quality is crap.

So what's the news on Tago? Lost in the first round of the AE, is he back with the national squad or competing as an independent player?

Independent I think. He's not on the 2016 national team list, for A-team nor B-team.
Also, he didn't wear the Japanese national team wear either. He's still in NTT East though.

edit: In an interview from about two weeks ago, it seems like he doesn't want to give up just yet. Until he's satisfied with his play he will keep pushing himself. Also, he says he's not regretting anything even though he's out of the national team and a long way from Rio 2016.
