Now that I'm older, I would like to go back in time and tell myself to pay more attention to proper footwork; "stop lunging all the time, just get there faster!" Result: in this altnerate universe, I might not be wearing two knee braces almost all the time. What about you?
If i would have known then, what I know now, would have changed clubs right from the starts. When I see where the people my age on other clubs are, I'm kinda disappointed in my trainers (right trainers, cuase they're not really coaches). If I would have done that, I'd probably be playing at a much higher level.
"When you lunge sideways, your foot must point in the same direction. Otherwise you may sprain your ankle. And if you go over on your ankle, stop playing for the night."and:"The backhand grip is only for net kills and other shots in front of the body. Feel free to use other grips when they work better."But actually, if I had to choose one piece of advice only, it would be this:"Your mum is about to have a brain haemorrhage, which will leave her severely disabled and nearly ruin your life. It can be detected with an angiogram, and prevented with surgical clipping or a radiographic procedure."Hindsight is a wonderful thing It's better to act for the future than regret our past ignorance. Do not indulge yourselves with "what ifs"; they are treacherous.
omfrigging god, me friggin too... but not really, still want to have life after badminton. But it sux to suck at badminton...
Re HI i could have join this forum earlier to know more knowledges and advices. Not till now sometimes still got question to ask..... sigh.......... ceng
Good point! I started this thread not just to get people to complain about what they missed out though, but perhaps to give newbies a heads up on what they might want to pay attention to, unless they want to be creaky grouches like ourselves
Not when you are an American. Badminton pays pittance compared to tennis, basketball, golf, etc. It is only a social backyard sport!
Looking back, i wish i would have taken up the game younger and more seriously, like finding a coach at the age of 5 to 7. I started at 10, but didn't train seriously till 19. Too bloody late . I love this sport so much that i regret i hadn't trained hard enough to play at a higher standard when I still had the physical fitness. Now at age mid 30s things just aren't quite the same as 10-15 years ago - especially with the knee problem. I have stopped training and playing for league matches now as business is taking up time, but still try best to go for 3 club nights per week where possible.
For me, I should have continued badminton more seriously. I was lucky to be in the school team in grade 8 so we had some pretty serious practice for the inter-school games. But after that, although I loved the sport, it was only an on and off game playing with friends from time to time. I only started to play regulary again about half a year ago (and now I'm 26!) and although I have some of the skills, it's just not good enough.:crying:
"Stay away from chip shops you'll get fat" "Don't crash your car and damage your legs" but badminton wise it would have to be "you should have kept playing whilst at uni" or "you should have started younger" I started when I was 16 and finished when I was 18, if I'd had started a year or two earlier I could well have been ranked quite highly in junior badminton but not much chance of that now since the game has moved on so much and I've found chip shops, mmmmm.............chips But in saying that, I wouldn't go back and change anything!
Commenting on your comments 1) Excusable, I love fish and chips too 2) Unavoidable, I mean come on it's not like you crashed it purposely 3) More chip shops?? Mmm. Makes sense. Well for me was to get coaching. But then now it's too late isn't it
I'm surprised no one has mentioned going back in time with the correct lottorey numbers. That could theoretically get you all the coaching you want.
U must be kevin, how u doing? I thought winning the lottery was something beyond our control so it wasnt realistic to look back this way. Consider that if we did win the lottery, $$$$$$$ in our pocket, badminton would possibly have been so low down in our priority list of life. winston
