Carolina Marin (CM) is an unpopular badminton player because of her antics on court. She might be playing good badminton and currently the world nos 1 but her sportsmanship is below par and looks immature. She is similar to the Australian cricket team which is also good at cricket but highly unpopular due to the way they play cricket like sledging, not upholding of the true spirit of the game etc. CM needs to have more maturity and play quietly rather than making loud sounds & screams when she wins a point. It is not like Sharapaova making sounds when she hits a tennis ball. CM screams when she wins a point which is totally upsetting the opponents and the spectators. I think IBF needs to step in and ban such loud screams when winning a point. Lets play badminton in its true spirit and enjoy this beautiful game. This in my opinion make CM a very unpopular badminton player.
Screaming after winning a point yourself is OK, but screaming in the direction of your opponent after he/she makes a mistake, now that crosses the line of sportsmanship. Hope BWF starts to nip this in the bud before OG arrives.
altho CM seems to be quite unpopular... l don't mind at all the way l see... it adds up more spices/varieties in term of characteristic therefore much more enjoyable for me to watch the game other than CM would be kim ha na... she also interesting to watch she's currently in a very good form... intercepting/defending/servicing/smashing very very well but somehow her body language... l would say a bit negative even tho she's winning the point it seems like she just lost a point... maybe lack the swagger part but hey... different people different style of characteristic
Vishnu really is in a Delorean. The name IBF hasn't been used for a long time! I actually enjoy watching CM play and her antics. I think touching the umpire or any of the judges is going too far and BWF should clamp down strongly on that. A certain M Boe springs to mind as a previous example.
Despite losing seven times to seven different players so far this year, namely,Saina Nehwal (Syed Modi GPG), Sung JH (German Open), Intanon R(IND Open SS), Michelle Li (Sudirman Cup), Yui Hashimoto (INA Open PSS in R1), Wang Shixian (JPN Open SS in the QFs), and P V Sindhu (DEN Open PSS) - she is still the player to beat for anyone. To me, she is not yet a dominant player. She is a very fast mover, very fit and clearly aggressive in both attack, her forte, and defence (often turning defence into counterattack at the earliest opportunity) but still vulnerable at times as the abovementioned defeats to different players shown.
i like to see the receipts to CM cheering in her opponents direction. She has withdrawn from Bitburger Open. Wise choice.
Fully agree CM is entertaining to watch, actually has a personality she is doing the sport and ladies singles a big favour, way more interesting at the moment. What happened with the "touching the umpire"?
