Lin D, Momota, Chou TC and Jorgensen had hard times to dispose their rivals yesterday while top-seed Chen L outplayed Vittinghus in late-night match. Tommy Sugiarto stole the show to stun 5th seed Srikanth Kidambi who performed far from his best recently. And last but not least Hong Kong's Wei Nan knocked out one of the favourite here, former champion Lee CW in straight-sets. Today's last eight will see mouth watering clash between Lin D v Axelsen and Chou TC v Momota also interesting to follow the resurgent Sugiarto against home favourite Jorgensen. One remaining quarterfinal tie will pit Wei N v defending champion Chen L. The Chinese trio managed last eight spot and 1 semifinal ticket has been assured through Li XR v Wang SX. The remarkable Marin will face Canadian Michelle Li who played marathon match against Okuhara yesterday. A battle of tall player, Wang YH v Sindhu should be interesting to watch, the in-form Sung JH who collected 2 titles in KOR and THA recently is favoured to win over Mitani who shocked Indian superstar Saina Nehwal earlier. The biggest upset in MD category saw two times World Champion, Ahsan/Setiawan succumbed to Chinese new scratch pair Liu C/Lu K in two close games. The Indonesian is struggling badly after topped podium at memorable Jakarta WC two months ago. Another setback also happened to regular SS participant, Endo/Hayakawa who lost to Russian pair Ivanov/Sozonov. Top-seed Lee YD/Yoo YS and last year winner Fu HF/Zhang N are slated to renew their rivalry tomorrow. Local hero Boe/Mogensen will face stiff resistance, China #2 Chai B/Hong W. One remaining semifinal slot will be determined by Ivanov/Sozonov v Liu C/Lu K. Both China and Korea have secured 1 spot in WD semifinal as their pairs will meet each other today, Ma J/Tang YT v Luo twin sisters and Jung KE/Shin SC v Chang YN/Lee SH. Jung/Shin sent packing last year beaten finalist Matsutomo/Takahashi yesterday but Japan still have one representative at quarterfinal, Kakiiwa/Maeda who will up against HKG Poon LY/Tse YS. Local combination Pedersen/Juhl has top Chinese hurdle none but reigning Olympic and World Champion, Tian Q/Zhao YL for a place in semifinal. A huge shock was created by the unseeded Korean XD, Shin Baek Cheol/Chae Yoo Jung who eliminated mighty Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in straight-sets, the worst outcome for the world #1 in Superseries tournament this year. Other contenders, Fischer/Pedersen and Ahmad/Natsir got a scare by the underdogs to advance. China has three representatibes in this discipline, defending champion Xu C/Ma J will take on Korean opponent Ko SH/Kim HN, Liu C/Bao YX and Lu K/Huang YQ have tough task to progress as Adcock/Adcock and Ahmad/Natsir respectively will waiting them. And Danish #1 Fischer/Pedersen will be tested by giant-killer Shin BC/Chae YJ. I am more inclined to watch MS than WS. WS is anybody's game . Top 20 girls can beat each other at any point of time. Looking forward to 1) Axelsen vs Lindan 2) Kento momota vs CTC 3) Tommy Sugiarto vs Jan O jorgensen My predictions: 1) Lindan 2) Kento Momota 3) Tommy Sugiarto
MS Predictions with scoreline: Kento Momota vs Chou Tien Chen -> Kento Momota 15-21 21-18 21-18 Viktor Axelsen vs Lin Dan -> Viktor Axelsen 21-10 21-13 Tommy Sugiarto vs Jan O Jorgensen -> Tommy Sugiarto 21-18 13-21 21-17 Chen Long vs Wei Nan -> Chen Long 21-16 21-15.
wow, these quarter finals are great. Tons of excellent matches. I will look forward to the following: 1. Shin/Chae vs Joachim/Christinna 2. LD vs Viktor 3. Chai/Hong vs BoMo 4. LXR vs WSX 5. Poon/Tse vs Reika/Miyuki 6. Tian/Zhao vs Christina/Kamilla 7. Xu/Ma vs Kim/Ko
No reason to win today...His Olympic spot competitors Tian HW and Wang ZM have already lost.....And he has collected fair bit of points to qualify for Destination Dubai SS Finals.
For Lin Dan in his current form, he has a tough hurdle to clear today - Viktor is in excellent form and hungry - which will probably stretch and strain him quite a fair bit. Should he clear this one, there's an even tougher match awaiting him, assuming it's Chen Long, even if he made past it, he'd be at least half-spent for the final. Simply put, I doubt Lin Dan can land his first Premier SS title of the year. Not sure what thoughts will be going through Lin Dan's mind but I really hope he'd try his level best to win the tournament, if only to test his capability despite not in top form just to see how far he can go and what needs to be done, that should help his strategic planning for the major one, Rio'16, that is. I mean by playing half-heartedly, it wouldn't enable him know whether his gameplan would work out well enough when it matters most at the really big one; it's better and wise to test it out beforehand so as to be fully prepared for any contingency, for as we know the best of plan may go awry. Just my 2 cents.
Star Shuttler unhappy about Match's Timing Danish star Hans-Kristian Vittinghus has used Social Media Platform to express his disappointment over tournament's bad timing of matches.Vittinghus first express that when it's people's 'Going to Bed' Time,he had to face Great Wall of China,a demanding customer considering that late in the Night: Vittinghus's rants didn't stop there as then he used another social media device to perhaps blame Mismatch 'timing' as well as opposition: Badminton Fans across the globe can relate to HKV's complain as some fans namely blabl and Nine Tailed Fox have found it quite Sleepy to cope with tournament matches.
this guy confirm sleep very early, think his country no "night is young", and of course "late night match" is every Asians advantage as they can tahan play till very late, even overnight...
11.40 pm Denmark time is 5.40 am China time, not to mention the lingering effects of jetlag, if any by the second day of the tournament. Wonder if the late time schedule is worse for HKV or Chen Long.
Funny. If he says something like that definitely he is ignorant of asian timings. If so, he would not have spoken about it knowing the fact that chen long comes from a country which is +6 hrs to Odense. After seeing this, i must say about Jan vs Rumbaka's match. Rumbaka should have won that match. Man, Jan was like arrogant and disrespectful to the umpire, service umpire , no need to talk about his behaviour to opponent. Throughout the match, he was restless . His behaviour of refusal to change the shuttles and then asking the umpire to stop Rumbaka from taking a towel break etc are very unsportive in nature. At one point, when Rumbaka killed his net shot, he shouted at Umpire that she did not call a fault (Rumbaka killed the shuttle without any fault) and he shouted like a mad man. Many line calls were in question since the match was held in the non tv court. Even commentators were in shock of some of the line calls. But Rumbaka did not even raise his voice at any point of time. Unfortunately, he lost the match which he should have won.
Poor Rumbaka.....most of the european player so arrogant(Jan,Marin, etc) except few.....asian does repect the opponent......
Just finished watching the replay of the LCW - Wei Nan match, the livestream yesterday was horrible. I must sday, Wei Nan was devastating, his attacks scintillating, his smashes so lethal, steep and well-placed , to use Steen Pedersen's words, that LCW was left stranded a number of times; it's certainly not often or very few people who could do that to LCW. And you must watch that fabulous rally at 16-all, in the end won by WN with superb defence, after which he took a bit of time to get ready for the next point which, to me, is understandable but the umpire yellow-carded him for time-wasting (that entailed a USD250 fine), shucks. Watch out, Chen Long, don't you dare switch off tonight or Wei Nan is going to give you a rude awakening. Btw, I understand that Hendrawan is tasked to take charge of LCW and help him work out some new strategy and gameplan, mainly to deal with Chen Long and Lin Dan. Perhaps, during this , I believe short, transition period, he may be a bit more vulnerable than he should be until he finds the right and optimal balance taking into account his current age and physical condition. We'll see, though admittedly, things aren't looking too good for him at the moment, what with his worst ever result of late being knocked out by a qualifier at the qualification stage. But, happily, there's no denying his high-achievement motivation and hunger to succeed, a vital element to keep going at the highest level in professional sport.
